His kicking all game was an utter disgrace. He helped them to get control over the ball countless (needless) times. It's like watching a local Sunday league GK.

I don't agree on that mate. I actually thought he kicking was good, it looks awful statistically but actually he whacks it a long way down field under pressure. It's strange really as my list of concerns with him have never really involved his kicking. He had few options, got great distance but the kicks were mostly eaten up by VVD.

That's the level of shot stopping he needs to be at though, ever week. That sort of games needs to be not the one off game, but the level of consistency he plays to most weeks. That's his challenge.

Why should we need to be asking that of an England international GK we paid £30M for?

It's just not on.

Cut our losses and sell him.

Well we are asking it of him because he's not delivered it to date. If we got a good offer for him I'd consider it but I just don't see that forthcoming at present. I got laughed at for suggesting we should have sold him and moved for Foster but the point stands, We missed that window though so that's the standard he needs to be at in the intervening period.

I would have to agree but only because of the unmanageable amounts of pressure he puts on the defence by never coming to collect anything. His shot stopping and distribution is fine for me.

And sell him at a massive loss in a heartbeat.

He's just appalling.

You reckon Brands would agree? Be interesting to see if he has the balls to make those sort of calls.

I reckon he would sell Richarlison for the profit he is being linked with.

If he has any feel for football team building then Brands would take any offer that came for Pickford. It's like trying to build a house on shifting ground.

Actually thought his kicking was good and a good ploy by Silva. Liverpool thrive on loose balls in midfield. The amount of times I’ve seen them snaffle up goal kicks in midfield and immediately punt it behind the defence to Salah is unbelievable. Pickford was deliberately kicking wide so Liverpool kept having to put the ball out of play or at worse it went out for their throw in. We didn’t give them any opportunity to counter from one of our goal kicks at all and he relieved pressure on us brilliantly allowing us to press them up the pitch.

People may not like it but that is how to play Liverpool. It would be great if we were as good as City and could play out the back against them but even they got murdered doing that last season and only just perfected it this season. Bayern did exactly the same as us. If the build up was under pressure they went long and wide. Madrid and City at the Etihad are the only teams I’ve seen play out against them.

Klopp has built a team based on dog like hounding of the opposition and has spent world record fees to do this. Unless we spend world record fees on possession players to counter that then we shouldn’t expect it from our team (seeing as no one else in the league can do it either). Silva should be applauded for playing pragmatically against them. It’s as Mourinho said, until Klopp is prepared to change how he plays then teams are forced to play this way and they’ll continue to be frustrated by it. You either join. The club that pragmatically gets a result against them or you can join the Eddie Howe club that gets whacked 5-0 playing pretty football out the back.
