2018/19 Jordan Pickford

Yeah so he should take command of the situation. Which in this case means Zouma needs to get out of the way. Which he didn't.

That's purely using your he can see the whole picture argument, there are reasons for it being Pickfords fault as well as Zoumas but it is not 100% either way imo.

I reckon I’d go 80 Picko, 20 Zoomo looking back at it now.

Keeper had no business being there at all. But Zouma should have taken no chances and wellied out really.

But that 6-2 was freakin’ ages ago and we should all never think about it ever again so let’s stop talking about it yeah?

Good job the Gladys Street show no signs of the contempt by a few on here towards Pickford. Gordon West's career was finally wrecked with barracking from EFC fans. Goalies never get over it. On the subject of Gladys St, what happened to the time honoured custom of applauding opposition goalkeepers? All I could see on Sunday were v signs for the Red fella. Yes, alright, obviously be plays for the RS, but I thought goalkeepers were somehow exempt as a matter of respect for their "special status"? Clearly not.

If I'm honest I haven't seen it again since I saw it live and stormed off for a pint. I'm gonna side with the goalkeeper most times tbh. It's just a mix up really and neither party is innocent though.

I do think you’re a bit mad. But I agree with you there mate.

He doesn't need to see him. When a keeper comes for a cross the defender doesn't see him, he hears him. If Pickfords coming storming of his line hes not gonna do it silently. He'll be saying it's his ball in which case Zouma needs to trust him and move. The debate as to whether he should be coming for it or not is certainly there though.
To be fair you can't just say 'he would have shouted' because it carries no more weight than saying 'Zouma would have moved if he'd heard him'. Obviously both of them seem logical, but one of them clearly didn't happen and there's no way we can know which one. What I can say though, is that I have seen plenty of examples of defenders having a go at him for either not shouting or not shouting loud enough. As you say though, even if Pickford shouted as loud as he possibly could, it doesn't answer the question of why he was haring out in the first place.

Must be a long, long time since you saw a Goodison derby mate. I've been to the last 26 and never seen the Gwladys clap the Liverpool keeper.

Blimey you've got good eyesight. Sorry I missed that one. Ok it was Zoumas fault.

Never said it was his fault did I? At the time I said it was mostly Pickford’s fault for rushing out for no reason, however Zouma wasn’t blameless and could have helped the situation. He knew where Son was and knew where Pickford was, he just had a brain fart, panicked, and did nothing in the end.

Having watched it again for the first time since it happened. There is massive hesitation from both of them. Zouma absolutely sees him because he just freezes. It was a weird one and neither come out looking good.

I have not missed a Goodison derby in 60 years. I guess I must have been dreaming that such a thing also happens with RS goalies. Must admit though you are very very observant to be able to say it has never happened in 26 years.

I can remember RS keepers been applauded, mid 70s Ray Clemence. in the 80s it was Grobbelar but quickly followed by 'your a clown' plus a few other choice words and hand gestures.
