2018/19 Jordan Pickford

The lad was out enjoying himself and had abuse hurled at him all night. Sooner or later, anyone would snap if put in that position. Also, nobody even knows how the scrap kicked off - for all we know some lad may have stuck one into him to kick it off. Also no indication that he was steamo either, absolute assumptions being thrown around everywhere here.

He is a role model on the pitch certainly, but why would an 8 year old even be able to watch Pickford fighting on social media?

I don't really get role models in general though, I mean role models are human, all humans can be horrible at times so its a very dangerous thing to show such faith in people.

I don't think it alters his worth as an asset at all. It's not like he has done an Adam Johnson.

Spot on with the clean sheets thing. This type of thing gets heightened when the player is having a bad time of things on the pitch.
I am sure that my son will come back all up to date on the situation by the time I pick him up this afternoon and then I will be able to report what actually happened. He goes to a good school, but kids are kids, and if one of them has a phone, then they'll all have seen the incident before the first bell rings.

(Do schools still have bells for ringing in the kids? I presume so.)

I do hope that Silva and the club manage this well and actually foster a team spirit and togetherness over this and make it into a positive over the long term. If the club and fans get behind Pickford and each other, then this could be a powerful thing once he is brought back into the fold (ie 5 minutes after Silva clips him around the ear and tells him next time, Big Dunc is going to do the clipping).

Kids shouldn't have phones at 8 years old. I think that's one of the issues. But yeah you are right it happens.

Is Ferguson really the one you want to be admonishing our players for misbehaving?? He would get the job done but it would also be rather hypocritical!

He might of, he just didn't live in a time when everyone had a camera in their pocket and a social media ego to caress

The more people live their life through a lense the more untouchable they think they are.

I have no doubt the bloke who was shouting "BOOOAFINAHS! to Pickford is a "top bantz merch" on social media who does things like that all the time with no real come back from it as it's not "real".

As put yesterday as well

and clean sheet records for the whole league this season-he has same amount now to last season at present league wise

10th in the League for Punchse up until now, 2 behind Liverpool. At least we'll be ahead of them in that now...

Big Dunc walloping the recalcitrant players would be more effective than a fine. Might hamper recruitment in the long term though. lol

8 year olds not having phones? You're preaching to the converted on that one. However, once little Zebediah (or whatever daft name is in vogue) has one, they tumble like dominoes.

Knives are a totally different matter to a scuffle though. I'm not condoning this behaviour, it's idiotic. As I explained earlier though, it's nature. It should be a condition that should be understood as any other hormonally controlled action rather than used to bludgeon males.

You seem intent on ignoring the role alcohol had to play in this. Far greater influence than hormones, imo.

As a supposed professional he could easily avoid these situations by not drinking to that kind of excess in public places. And before the “can’t he have fun?!” brigade join in, of course he can but he is being paid handsomely enough that he should be happy to make small social sacrifices in order to maintain his reputation and that of the clubs and nation he is fortunate enough to play for.

Its the first thats been in the press. He did it before and will do it again. Daft lad.

That's the thing mate, you just know that this won't be the last time we're talking about him in these sort of incidents etc because he just comes across as a bad bellend scally, and maybe someone did throw the first dig the other night and Pickford was just defending himself, and he has every right too, but you just always have the feeling there was more to it than that.

The people who were posting the video on twitter etc yesterday before it kicked off on here were suggesting that he'd been drinking throughout the day, and that that isn't a particularly uncommon thing for him. Obviously they might be lying, but it's not really an assumption to take those posts at face value.

Also worth pointing out that he wasn't really 'put in that position'. He put himself in that position, by choosing to go what looks like a dog rough pub where there were always going to be people who would try to wind him up.

It's not a massive deal, he doesn't need the book throwing at him and the matchgoing fans certainly won't hold it against him, but I hope he learns from it. It's not asking a lot for him to be professional and not get into trouble really, most footballers seem to manage it.

Apparently, the banter was well accepted, it was when they started having a go at his fiance that it all went Pete Tong.

All over in a few seconds (I've heard that before) and nothing to get het up about. A non-story in reality.

Unless it was a RS player, then of course, it is disgusting and he should be hung, drawn and quartered.
