Lukaku - slated by fans for his rubber shins and work rate - havent replaced him 3 years on

Gana - slated for his passing/creativity - havent replaced him 1 year on.

Lets not make the same mistake with Pickford eh boys. Lad needs a proper back up to push him and keep him on the straight and narrow as when he's switched on he is a good GK.

I'm a fan of Pickford. Makes countless smart saves.

He's very confident, to the point of almost arrogance. I don't mind that. He needs, especially in the position he is as GK, to be single-minded whilst on the pitch.

He'll make mistakes as all keepers do. He's 25 and done his major learning with us. It will be us that benefits in the next few years.
This 100%

Also we've been saying for years we need players with a bit of snide. The lad's got that in spades

He makes alot of howlers, he makes some great saves, he inspires very little confidence. He doesnt come for crosses.

Throughout his career he has shown no level of consistency and is short for a keeper nowadays.

He gets beaten way too often in the corners of the goals because of his size for me.

There are more pressing areas of concern but I think he is bang average and we should be looking for something way better if we want to challenege for top 6/4.

This is an absolutely ridiculous statement with Schneiderlin and other passengers still around.

Would I want to have a pint with Pickford? Probably not. But I honestly don't care about any of that. He's a very good keeper, not world class.

The stick this guy gets just b/c you lot don't like the cut of his jib is astounding
I haven't gave him any stick in ages. I just don't like him.

They were both quality players. I've never really backed Pickford though as he's done nothing to change my mind about him in the time he's been here. If anything, he's just cemented how poor he is in my head.

Every time I saw the goal from behind the scorer all I see is a keeper off his line by at least 6 yards and a short arsp grasp for thin air if he had saved it it would have been a Worldly like, but nevertheless I gasp at his positioning for the attempt ....

Yet if he were closer to his line and he wasn't in position to cut down the angle or claim a cross from that position that required a worldie to score from, he'd be slated by the same people asking why he wasn't off his line

If he was closer to his line he had more chance of pulling of a wonderful save as he is a short step he no right to be that far out imo..... Big Nev would have saved that ....

As I said to someone else recently: Shot-stopping is not his problem, never has been. His highlight reel is outstanding. Where he falls down is his decision making, when to come off his line/stay in, command of the back line, etc. He tries to be a hero too often IMO. A maturity thing. A keeper should be a leader but he's childish. Lately the quality of his distribution is down too - too many punts out of touch which should never happen.

I agree with the poster upthread who thought that a little attitude was a good thing. There's a difference between nasty and petulant. As he gets older and more experienced I hope he'll move away from the latter.

We're on our 57th manager in the past ten minutes and we now have the guy who single handedly built the Apollo module and cures cancer with his gaze and we just got bossed by a bunch of children, so at some point you have to say it's the men on the pitch. Someone has to take charge out there. The keeper is a natural candidate. I'd like him to be someone who inspires/kicks the ass of other players, rather than needing such treatment himself.
