2019/20 Jordan Pickford

The biggest thing for me is that he is too small compared to most modern keepers. Good shot stopper good distribution of the ball...well most times. But his height means he doesn't command the six yard box and this costs us goals. He also loses concentration and makes mistakes but he's young and may get better at that part. But his height you can do nothing about

He is exactly the same height as one of the best goalkeepers I have ever seen.

Big Nev would have put them Sheff Utd Forwards in Row Z and collected the ball the other week. Without any drama or heroics. He could do the bread and butter things as well as the worldie shot stopping. That’s the measure of a great keeper.

The people who criticise Pickford generally don't have an appreciation of what other 'keepers do as they don't watch them 90 minutes every week.

Pickford is a good 'keeper. Very good in fact. The truth is he's still a very young 'keeper; they peak generally in their 30s. He's an established England international - even against City when he made mistakes he still made several good saves too.

I ask the people who want rid of him, who genuinely is better than him who is realistic in terms of bringing in? I know this is hypocrisy in a way as I laugh at that argument with managers, but in this case there's genuinely very few goalkeepers who don't also make mistakes that are better than Pickford overall.

Should he be dropped at the moment? Not for me no - but should he be criticised? Absolutely. He hasn't been good enough lately, but it's form rather than overall ability that's the problem.
Eh mate have you got a JP tattoo? Of course he should of been dropped. He has made too many mistakes. He needs bollicking over his laughing antics and benching

Some people are so Tedious about Pickford and its so utterly boring beyond belief - saying as above that he should be dropped etc is just so absolutely ridiculous,Yes like every keeper he make's mistakes but some cant wait for him to make one, [while some hope Everton are in the bottom 3 etc], and some even look for mistakes that are not even there most of the time just so they can have a go and say what they want lol

....I’m sure i’m not alone in wishing he didn’t make costly mistakes, but sadly he does. I want to trust him but I don’t trust him. It’s perfectly reasonable for posters to voice opinion. He’s a fine shot stopper, he’s a modern day keeper but i’m an old fella who prefers a keeper who does his job so well that you don’t notice him.

I don’t want him dropped, I don’t particularly want him replaced, i’d just like him to earn my trust.

To be fair, people were looking for errors [on basically everything he does, kicks whatever] that he hadnt made even on games we had not conceeded, while some had pre conceived about him before we even had him, 9 times from 10 carry it on,he has made errors and yes he will continue to,just like every other keeper pretty much, no idea how some people go on about there own keepers when they think they have a bad game on forums lol,but De Gea and co made quite a few that didnt seem to get mentioned by the so called experts in the press and co most of the time, while Pickford make's one and it everywhere lol,And off course everyone can voice an opinion - only thing i dont like and said before is when he kicks to a defender so close to the box as i expect us to be caught out Like Arsenal and city have been last few weeks ;)

....Pickford’s errors are usually costly (thinking Liverpool and Newcastle away) and often stupid errors of judgement rather than a handling error. Goalies are meant to be ‘mad’, but Pickford is erratic and often stupid. A bit of a dope, I suppose.

He’ll be fine when he grows up.

And thats the thing, people mostly have it in for him to me for those errors, mostly the Liverpool one,and cant let it go,Newcastle game he was all over the place

...which is understandable, the team were terrific at Anfield last season. Monumental effort over 90mins and he let his teammates and fans down with a massive error of judgement in the last minute. Indeed, some might say the fans have been very forgiving.

He’s a very good shot stopper, but he has to earn our trust. I think he needs to grow up, he needs to be more professional and manage games much better. Just my opinion, of course.

I said on twitter the other day, that you compare him to Ederson, they are a similar age, bought for similar fees (albeit Ederson was a bit more) but City looked at them both. You can see they both have a lot of talent, good with their feet, excellent reflexes etc. However one player has really kicked on and wins his teams games semi-regularly. Pickford seems a level below to me.

It probably sounds harsh, but I look at Emerson andI'm disappointed after his first season thats not the level where Pickford has got too. It would make an enormous difference to us if he was. He would bail us out of lots of games.

If you want my gut feeling, I think there's a concentration and professionalism issue. He seems to relish bigger games, and was very good at the World Cup. However being a good goalkeeper is about doing it every week.

He;s not the biggest, but he has fantastic power, reflexes and is very good with his distribution. He has enormous ability, but it hasn't all sinked in for him. I do wonder if a move away would help him. Unfortunately for him, I think that option has gone with his drop in form.

In the mean time, I'll be a lot happier if he starts on a journey whereby he wants to go from being an erratic goalkeeper to begin a consistently top draw one. That challenge still looks on for me.
