If he is affected, mentally, by the circus these last 2 weeks, anyone with some experience of the issue will look back on his behaviour, (the pumped up stuff, the Newcastle melt down, etc), and not be surprised.

He needs, I reckon, to learn about his Shadow Man, and once you know about him, you can start to develop coping measures to keep on top of him.

I would love to as I have wanted Pickford dropped this long time.

But I cannot understand why Carlo has already stated that Pickford plays next week.

What happens if Olsen has a great game, saves a penno and keeps a clean sheet?

A bizarre thing for Carlo to say IMO.

It's not that bizarre really, he has to say something. If he say he's dropped for poor form that's a bigger news story. If he says he's dropped because of the media circus that's a big story too. Whether this will work is another story, but I imagine that's the thinking.

To me it suggests Carlo still has first team plans for him and doesn't want to contribute further to his decline in confidence.

Olsen probably did enough to continue deputising, but wouldn't be at all surprised if he sticks to his word in the media either.

Both players will know the score behind the scenes.

Just a wee comment on that little kerfluffle that Pickford had with Saint Virgil of the tulips. The rs haven't bloody lost since he's been out. And we haven't won or even looked like winning.......

As said elsewhere, Carlo told the media he always rotates his goalkeepers. It keeps them on their mettle. He might not do it if his 1st choice is a great keeper but failing that, it does make sense. Rotation will be the norm between Olsen and Pickers, unless one has a terrible game and delays the rotation.

It is pretty bizarre. He didn't need to say why he wasn't playing, just say it's the same as any other position, we've got competition for places and I think Olsen's the right choice for this game. It's not the biggest issue in the grand scheme of things, but it just seems like a bit of a daft thing to say really.

Pickford has had plenty of opportunities to make amends or improve on his flaws but still keeps making mistakes or panics...
