In my lifetime Southall, Pickford and West the best.

Lawson, Wood, Howard Myhre and Arnold also noble performers. I loved Seamus McDonagh but we had a fragile defence at the time - still got international caps

It takes some doing to overcome that reputation he created of a erratic nut job prone to 2 or 3 mad errors a game.

To becoming the last person to worry about and a top top level keeper. Some redemption story.

I wonder what has been done behind the scenes to help him

That is the right order tbf. Spacing maybe not.
How about.

Nar man, Starfish was alright.

We got spoilt with Southall.

As I keep saying, Pickford is by far the best Keeper we as a club could hope to have.
I mean relative to Americans. He was fine but I don't think he was ever doing anything better than a little above average here. And he wasn't really all that for the national team either aside from that one crazy day. Big part in missing in 2018 too.

It feels more and more futile every year but I still believe there is a team of 20 or so players out there that we could realistically aquire that would put us in position to win a title. Maybe that won't be until circumstances improve a little and 85 points can win a title again but still. So with that in mind I can't accept that Pickford is the best we can do.

I guess when you have seen the players come and go like I have, you admire the not utterly horrific that little more.

I know, we have bad memories of Pickford, but IMO and I know you won't agree, but he's been pretty solid for quite a while now.

No, not pitch perfect every game, but he's at a very good level currently.

We won't, won't, not can't, improve on him

Don't really see the point in a Pope Pickford swap. I don't think we would actually make any cash, because Burnley would demand a very big fee, and I think Pickford is slightly better too. Certainly this season Pickford has outperformed Pope.
If they go down, I suspect there would be a pretty significant delta. Realistically don’t think we’d sell Pickford for less than 40mil and a relegated Burnley might sell pope for half that amount. Who knows though. They’re both largely keeping their clubs in the fight recently.
