I didn't think he made "outstanding " saves, tbh. He concentrated well, for once, and was alert to danger in the first half hour.

With our spending controlled by what we sell next season and the seasons to come, we have to cash in on him in this World Cup summer.

I hope Everton are at least preparing to do that and have already sounded Pope out to come here if they get relegated and we dont.
Yeah let's replace the England number 1 with the England number 3.

At least then people will be justified with moaning about the keepers kicking after watching Pope shin one out of play for the 45th time.

Call a spade a spade: it’s a great save.
It’s not hit particularly hard, and it’s nowhere near the corner. It just looks good because he hit it onto the bar. The second save is far better and it’s a brilliant save, but the first one is one where if it had gone in and it was Pickford, people would be eviscerating him. Just my two cents as a keeper

Pickford is fine until anything over four foot off the ground is hit at him. Corners and free kicks are always a concern

Put better defenders in front of him and we’d all be a lot more confident.

imagine having Holgate, Keane and Kenny in front of you ???
His ability to save shots is really independent of who the defenders are. Yes bad defending will probably lead to more shots, but it shouldn't effect which he saves and how often.

Can people not be objective. Some the embarrassing comments.

Mental gymnastics to discredit a solid performance v United. You know you can give credit where its due and not have your little fragile ego hurt by acknowledging a decent game. You can still go back to disliking him etc. It doesn't mean you are wrong.

Doubling down to the point of ludicrous is fragile ego behaviour.
It was a decent game. But a decent game should be the usual, not a stand out.

Tbh I thought he was fine on Saturday, nothing outstanding, it's literally what he's been doing all year.

The only difference is we actually won, if we drew or lost the usual suspects would be in here slating him.

Hes a scapegoat, because of his past performances not recent.
If we drew, changing nothing about the shots he faced, we'd be slating him because he'd have had to let in a soft goal. He's not a scapegoat for me, we didn't lose Burnley because of him for example, but he's just often not good enough.

I totally get the thinking behind selling him if his stock hits a big high at the WC but I would be looking at his age and thinking there may be further value to milk.

But replacing him with Pope? Doesn't seem like a better keeper to me and even if you argued that point there's no way you'll get good value for an English keeper hitting 30 - it's optimum time for Burnley to cash-in.

Pickford is a good short to medium range shot stopper; but he's completely woeful at commanding his penalty area. This club down the years (and never more-so than now) has been plagued by crosses being delivered into the box. That's what we have to improve on massively and Pickford cant help with that.

A defender will feel much more secure with a GK who gets out and deals with crosses. The whole defence can get a boost by employing a decent GK.

You know I've been with you for a long time on Pickford, but the fact hes really cut down errors and makes standard saves more often now is a big plus. More than that, hes a ray of calm, not of chaos on the pitch now.
