Pickford has probably another five or six years at the very top of his game and is probably in the best form of his career at present.
Clubs will know that if they are to sign him it will cost a lot of money , the figure of around 30m mentioned at the weekend was just silly.
There may be better value out there and clubs are trying to explore the market before they would commit big money in trying to sign some one like Pickford.
regarding age, every team needs a balance of ages , I don't think managers look at birth certs nearly as much as supporters, they see the players in action every day and will know who is in form and physically well.
The notion that a young man of 32 is somehow less capable than a 23 year old is just daft.
Only teams trying to survive on transfer sales are constantly trying to buy young and cheap and sell while the player has resale value.
Certainly that is a model that helps you make money but not win trophies and I don't think Everton is at that level yet.
Of course there are times that players have to sold because theire contract is running down, because somebody makes a silly bid, because the replacement is already in place.
We've had 700mil to spend and wasted it, why would getting more money instead of keeping one of the few actually good signings in the Mosh era be a wise idea?If we had sold both of them at 29 for big money.
They could have been replaced.
Instead one retired and the other had their 1st good season in 4 years.
The length of current contract has far more bearing than age. Then the value of the player to the selling club e.g. we go down each of last 2 seasons without pickford costing a fortune whereas arsenal come 2nd and still get knocked out of cups without ramsdale.
Pickford I'd worth more than both, the problem might be if we can afford to not sell
De Gea is 32. Both players are reliant on their reflexes.
We wouldnt 'weaken', there would need to be an attacker signed as well as a keeper.
Where does Henderson appear from? Ive never seen the stardust.
£50mil imo. But youre right, and ive been a 'fan' of his since before we signed him.
There is nothing stopping us signing a younger replacement. That player could do onto become the worlds best, there arent many top tier sides looking for a new keeper....ours could be the best.
As above, De Gea is 32.
What if Pickford starts going downhill in 2 seasons? Who buys him on £100k+ a week on the way down?
Need to get them on the way up.
£50mil+ for a 29 year old keeper can go a long way.
Remember, when Richarlison went we had more money to use due to FFP rules and book values etc
Id expect £50mil brings in £75mil which covers 2 signings -- who are better than Gordon. If they both double in value then happy days.
As i mentioned above, why Henderson?
Makes no sense to me at all.
This number just keeps getting bigger and biggerWe've had 700mil to spend and wasted it, why would getting more money instead of keeping one of the few actually good signings in the Mosh era be a wise idea?
We did get Pickford on the way up tho didn’t we? I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make .
You buy on the way up and you sell right before theyre on the way down
Yeah but when they keep you in the league you try to hold onto them.
What other keepers are we going to buy that won’t leave us weaker?
We cannot afford to be any weaker in any area going into next season or we will go down
Bazunu is someone that Southampton bought on the way up!You buy on the way up and you sell right before theyre on the way down
851 million and rising. This number just keeps getting bigger and bigger
