2022/23 Jordan Pickford

Pickford has probably another five or six years at the very top of his game and is probably in the best form of his career at present.
Clubs will know that if they are to sign him it will cost a lot of money , the figure of around 30m mentioned at the weekend was just silly.
There may be better value out there and clubs are trying to explore the market before they would commit big money in trying to sign some one like Pickford.

regarding age, every team needs a balance of ages , I don't think managers look at birth certs nearly as much as supporters, they see the players in action every day and will know who is in form and physically well.
The notion that a young man of 32 is somehow less capable than a 23 year old is just daft.
Only teams trying to survive on transfer sales are constantly trying to buy young and cheap and sell while the player has resale value.
Certainly that is a model that helps you make money but not win trophies and I don't think Everton is at that level yet.
Of course there are times that players have to sold because theire contract is running down, because somebody makes a silly bid, because the replacement is already in place.

Think this is spot on, if you go through Citys team at the weekend only Haaland from that starting 11 were under 26!

You also look at what a managers shelf life is these days, especially at Everton, they will be lucky to get 3 years! Why would they waste time 'bedding in' a player for 18 months, just for there succesor to reap the rewards

The length of current contract has far more bearing than age. Then the value of the player to the selling club e.g. we go down each of last 2 seasons without pickford costing a fortune whereas arsenal come 2nd and still get knocked out of cups without ramsdale.
Pickford I'd worth more than both, the problem might be if we can afford to not sell

I said something along the lines last year and i would stick to it this year also.

Would Everton have stayed up with Ramsdale in goal in either of the last 2 seasons? I dont htink they would
Would Arsenal have finished 2nd with Pickford in goal this season? I think they would of

(And i'm not one of the Ramsdale/Pope are rubbish purely because they are competition for Pickford at England) All 3 are really good keepers

He's irreplicable to us in our current position, especially as we are shoddy at recruitment anyway!

I think the comments from Pickford's representatives are great! If we end up selling, it will be on the club and not because the player wants to leave! So the club can't do what they have done so many times in the past trying to vilify players

I understand that we probably need to raise cash through selling one of Branthwaite, Onana or Pickford - the only players in the squad with any real decent market value - and it seems like the only interest that is only materialising is Pickford

But it will worry me an awful lot if he goes - stinks of Kasper Schmeichel leaving Leicester, a dodgy goalie can unsettle an entire backline and we simply cannot afford to get it wrong on a shot stopper; look at how much worse Southampton were with Bazunu in net

De Gea is 32. Both players are reliant on their reflexes.

We wouldnt 'weaken', there would need to be an attacker signed as well as a keeper.

Where does Henderson appear from? Ive never seen the stardust.

£50mil imo. But youre right, and ive been a 'fan' of his since before we signed him.

There is nothing stopping us signing a younger replacement. That player could do onto become the worlds best, there arent many top tier sides looking for a new keeper....ours could be the best.

As above, De Gea is 32.

What if Pickford starts going downhill in 2 seasons? Who buys him on £100k+ a week on the way down?

Need to get them on the way up.

£50mil+ for a 29 year old keeper can go a long way.

Remember, when Richarlison went we had more money to use due to FFP rules and book values etc

Id expect £50mil brings in £75mil which covers 2 signings -- who are better than Gordon. If they both double in value then happy days.

As i mentioned above, why Henderson?

Makes no sense to me at all.

We did get Pickford on the way up tho didn’t we? I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make .

You buy on the way up and you sell right before theyre on the way down

Yeah but when they keep you in the league you try to hold onto them.

What other keepers are we going to buy that won’t leave us weaker?

We cannot afford to be any weaker in any area going into next season or we will go down

We wont sell and not replace in at least 2 positions. 2 good keepers ive mentioned Marmadashvili at Valenca and Verbruggen at Anderlecht.

Of course 1st season there would be a drop off but would be balanced with a shiny centre forward.

Bazunu is someone that Southampton bought on the way up!
And he will be a very good keeper, but has made a lot of mistakes lost his place in the team! He will learn and get better though!

Pickford did the same, he had a lot of learning and growing to do to become the goalkeeper and leader he is today.

We cannot afford to have a goalkeeper learn on the job like Pickford has had the opportunity too!

Can you imagine the side we have had over the last 2 seasons with a goalkeeper 'on the way up?' We would of been down by Christmas!
