You won't see many poorer spot kicks than that this season,or was it arrowing to the top corner while I glanced away from the screen:oops:?

How many "poor" spot kicks do you see that go in though? Plenty. If Pickford goes the wrong way, then it's a great pen and the striker has "kept a cool head". No penalty save is easy, not one ever.

Ha Ha Ha.

His clumsy challenge in the first 10 minutes could have seen us out of that competition in one fell swoop...literally. And their goal was right at him and he lost the flight of the ball.

The jury is very much still out on a GK displaying decision making like that.
I don't like agreeing with commentators as a rule but I think Matthew Upson got it right when he said their goal couldn't have been stopped if we had two keepers.
Very harsh to say otherwise.

Not knocking him because I'm a big fan, but if he doesn't save that pen after going the right way then I'd be very very disappointed.

If it was either side of him then a Howitzer like that IS unstoppable. However, it was right at him and just moved a foot or so. He didn't follow the flight of the ball.

A GK at that level should be able to stop those right at them from that distance, changing ball flight or not.

In any case, it was the lunge for the 'pen' that was the worst error of judgement.

He did get away with the mistake early on but he made up for it with the penalty save and the great tip away across him in 1st half. He already has enough in the bank at this early stage to be allowed a mistake and not be crucified so we can't complain. Doing great so far.

I think that's pretty much right, I don't think it was down his throat though. He will make errors of judgement, everyone does, but I think he will make far fewer than most as time progresses.
I think he is very, very impressive.

Deflected shot that went all over the place, don't get me wrong here, when i first saw it live, I thought he should have saved it, on second viewing he had no chance. Brilliant keeper a snip at £30m will be England day number one no doubt. Great penalty save which made amends for the penalty that never was. What do you think of Siggys goal, wonderful or lucky ?
