theres gonna be a moment or two where a distribution error leads to a goal, i hope he will react well from this

How many "poor" spot kicks do you see that go in though? Plenty. If Pickford goes the wrong way, then it's a great pen and the striker has "kept a cool head". No penalty save is easy, not one ever.
Come on lets be honest if the taker puts something on it.....but last nights was more like a back pass.I like Pickford from what I've seen and he'll get an easy ride for a while. But if it had been Steklenberg or Robles who let that first one go straight down the middle...

Are people getting at Pickford? Really!? Hes been brilliant for us so far. A massive upgrade on what we had. Honest to god.
Just think some forum members are looking at last night game and being honest. He could have give a needless penalty away, their goal went straight down the middle and any one of our previous keepers would have been crucified for letting it in.And he was fortunate to face a joke of a penalty. That doesn't mean he isn't an upgrade on what we've had and he'll prove to be an excellent buy.

Not funny. God knows I disagree with Dave a lot but don't use mental illness as a jibe please.
Your post, Groucho, lent me motivation toward investigating the homophone jibe/gibe/gybe:

Gibe means to taunt, demean, or sneer: “They gibed him about his mistakes.” It functions as both a verb (to taunt) and a noun(taunt)
Jibe means to shift direction: “They jibed their ship across the wind.” The sailing term may be spelled either gybe (UK) or jibe (US)

NB: colloquially, jibe also means to agree i.e. “their alibis jibed.”

My curious brain (in more ways than one!), then demanded avenue toward investigating words like 'gyp' (i.e is it spelt gyp or jip or gip?).
The first of these possible spellings seems 'most' correct (eg "My knee has been giving me gyp since I started running")
Gyp also means to cheat (eg I think the taxpayers are getting gypped".)

PS: I think Pickford is a great young talent.

Totally agree with this. I guess the other element is the save in the first half that he just got his finger tips to and pushed wide along the floor.

For me I am still in the place that i was when we bought him. 30m is a lot to pay for potential. Now to be fair to him early indications are ..... he has saved us points already, his distribution is generally good, he copes with crosses well, is a good shot stopper and communicates well.

I have been pleasantly surprised but we are only a few games into what will hopefully be an exceptional stay with us .... A good start.

Despite us being utter tripe for all of last season. I think he only made one stupid error that I can think off.

Considering most games were like the Alamo that's not to bad. Sure, he will make a mistake soon enough, after all which keeper doesn't but you're in good hands and as I've said before he will save you a hell of a lot more points than he will cost you.

Really chuffed for the lad and the start he has made.

He could have given a penalty away, if the player had not been offside = he didn't give a penalty away.
The ball was straight at him = it swerved an dipped all over the place, was not "straight at him" and not a straight forward or even easy save
Joke of a penalty = he saved it

Why look for the bad?

Cool, thanks. I love word play.

@Groucho point still stands. This forum holds itself higher than using mental illness as a taunt.

This is wrong in so many ways. You are actually criticising him.

1. Player was offside so no penalty n/a.
2. Flight of the ball was all over the place. It was a good goal difficult for any keeper.
3. The penalty.....If Pickford dived the other way it was a goal. Did what he wasn't expected to do and saved it. What else could he do.

Yet you are being critical

He has shown his worth so far and beyond. Yes he will concede between 40 - 60 goals this season so to scrutinise every goal conceded is going to be tiresome and mostly ridiculous. Yes there will be a few that maybe he could have done better but that applies to every keeper in the world.
I think the positives fans will be looking more at his saves and prevention of goals
