He's not a key player for you, so we won't pay key player money.

He's not worth the same to you as, say, Mane was to Southampton etc.

His fair value is around the £20-25m mark, with the lower end of that valuation more likely than the higher.

Not really true. A player can be valued at a price whether he is transferred or not.

For example, John Stones is valued by us at at least £50m. That's how much he's "worth" to us, so it's not solely dictated by how much the buying club wants to pay.

We could be "willing" to pay £5m for Messi; that's doesn't mean his valuation is £5m.

OK mate. Just forget about Mata. Go to Barcelona and sign a player for £4m, I don't think Barcelona cares much selling one of their young players to a club from different league. It's better than trying to get a bargain price for a top class player from other PL club. Deluded.
