judge us at the end of the transfer window – not now

I don’t like it one bit saying this but if I was a betting man, I would back us to go down despite the signings.

We’re a back foot team and that’s no good.
We are definitely in some bother .......
Seems very difficult to see us coming from behind to draw let alone win
Seems difficult to hold a narrow lead when we do go ahead
Cant see many games at this point where we score more than once.

Of course, new signings could gel / DCL could find form and fitness / someone unexpected could step up in a Marcus Bent sort of way.... but there are going to be a lot of tight low scoring games and we need to start finding some wins

12th biggest spenders in the league

9th for net spend

Both Liverpool and city had lower net spend than us which is interesting

Brighton number 1 for net spend with 60 mil profit but when you have graham potter in charge it doesn’t matter

Neither of these are encouraging in the slightest when you consider we were building on a 16th place squad. What does “12th biggest” even mean, there are only 20 teams in the league? So we’ve spent less than over half the league after finishing 16th??

Comparing our netspend with Liverpool and City is nonsensical. They're much higher quality squads so have less changes needed. They also have higher level of players to sell to balance their spending (city selling Jesus/Zinchenko to Arsenal covered them bringing in Haaland). We couldn't find buyers for Allan and could only ditch Gomes on loans.

It can't be a good window if you didn't do very much to address your arguably biggest need.

That aside, it's an unproven/mediocre forward from everyone thinking this is the best window in 5 years. Relative to where we were when Dominic Calvert-Lewin went down, the club is better, perhaps much better.

The moves all make sense, which is an extreme rarity in recent seasons. Young talent combined with steady experience. No washed up paycheck seekers with undeserved attitude and from what I can tell, no cocky starlets already looking past EFC to their next move.
Our biggest need was sorting an awful defence and centre midfield…. I believe we done that?

All in all I don't think we have come out of it too badly.

Yes, we did need more options up front but the defence and midfield has been improved immeasurably - I actually felt confident that Leeds wouldn't go on and get another the other night with Coady and Tarkowski at the back and can you ever imagine that happening with Keane and Holgate?

Midfield now has options and legs and I think Maupay will do well for us.

Plus, I think Gordon will really step up now and will replace the goals that Richy gave us. So that is like having a new player i.e. a more improved one who has already scored 2/3rds of the goals he got last year.

And we got shot of a lot of deadwood.

Judging time then?

I find us still lacking. C+ to B-. No striker worth their salt coming in though ruins things.

So we're basically putting our faith in DCL being fit not only physically but also mentally.

Which I think could be a big problem after he said during the summer he struggled alot last season.

We have strengthened the defence and midfield but the attack where it matters we don't have enough. We are now very reliant on Dom staying fit, Maupay producing and Gordon and Gray chipping in. Classic Everton gamble only positive is it's a few months till the next window with the world cup this year. Just hope we aren't struggling badly by then, how they didn't use either of the loans still baffles me.
You say we are reliant on maupay producing? Surely the same is said if we had bought in someone else up top?
The same could be said for any signing for any club?
No signing is guaranteed to succeed, whoever it is?
It’s been a decent window, couple outgoings, decent value for money with the players we have bought in. Strengthened our 2 weakest areas, and didn’t panic buy like in past windows. An actual strategy was seen in this window I believe.

I thought the same against Leeds, last season we’d had gone and lost that game, the new signings bought in really have given us some sort of back bone and fight. We look more solid, across the pitch. I think we’ve had a good window personally.
