judge us at the end of the transfer window – not now

Well we conceded 66 last year 66 goals the most we EVER concede.. that will not happen again. If we score the same amount as last season 43 but concede 33 that’s a +10 which is top half finish

We also had no striker

How are we going to halve the goals we concede? Even if it gets a bit better it's more likely to be somewhere around 45-50.

A good window and definitely strengthens us compared to last year. Just wish we would have sorted the striker issue.

We needed an extra striker if Richarlison had stayed anyway. Still think it was strange allowing Dobbin or Simms go on loan.

I get the point you're trying to make, but only Man City and Liverpool conceded less than 33 last season and the season before that, only Man City.

My heads blowing up at this statement surely he should have been judged at kick off first game of the season.
You've virtually conceded 6 games of the season and we replaced Richarlison with McNeil, this looks like Peter Griffin replacing Schwarzenegger in Terminator.

Rant over but this guys a bloody clown how he's amassed the wealth he has me baffled.

Don't need them. If I know what amortization and wages came off, and what transfer profit is being binned off versus what was realized in the window, the only things I don't know that are relevant under the present rules are revenue shifts. I can make fairly educated guesses on things like changes in the value of the TV contract from other publicly available information. If the Prem signs a bigger contract with a broadcaster, that filters through to clubs according to a formula. Ticket revenue doesn't jump around much unless COVID gets in the way.

I don't know the value of things like changes in sponsorship values unless the club tells me in a press release, so there I have to guess.

Assume that the error terms cancel out if they're all inflated by add-ons. The inflated values you take off should generally offset the inflated values you take on, unless there's a big discrepancy between the total value of the previous contracts and the present ones. Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Do I know with precision? No. I can tell you that it is very likely that the club didn't have enough to sign another permanent until we settled Gueye. If PSG was at 8 and we were at 2, that's six million pounds, which comes out to 30 million when amortized over a five year deal. If we had it, we would have used it, because we're obviously pushing right up against the spending limits this season trying to stay up at all costs. That's self-evident and confirmed by the data.

I'm quietly confident a well run club will have targets lined up that fit both of these scenarios.

If they're tapped and quality loans aren't available, no. We're paying for the sins of past mismanagement in this window. We did the same in the last one to a much greater degree. The good news is that it gets substantially better going forward.

I don’t disagree we arnt well run but what the point in buying anyone.. look at Iwobi.. spend a fortune on him and 3 years later he good. Villa lad last year. King under Carlo

If we couldn’t get who we wanted then I’d tether we do that then get another mistake

Okay say 40-45 goals then giving us a +-1 goal difference still puts us top half based on last year

'If we score the same amount as last season' - a player who has left scored/directly contributed a third of those goals. That's my worry because we were 19th for chances created last season (I wrongly said bottom recently, we just went past Norwich late on).

Sure, we've improved the defence and midfield a lot, but in my (and to be fair, Lampard's) opinion we've gone backwards in the final third. We really, really need Calvert-Lewin to stay fit, and then hope Maupay/McNeil can replace Richarlison's impact, and Gordon goes to another level.

Odd if we went for Pedro at Watford as he was clearly available all summer apart from the last days.

Anyway, 15 league games until the window opens.

Lampard said we needed more help up front after Maupay signed.

We did not get it.

We can debate reasons, even agree with swerving Ben Brereton Díaz as I do, but the fact is a gap the manager identified was left as a gap.

We look more solid but have yet to keep a PL clean sheet.

It is hard to see enough goals & enough clean sheets coming to have us mid-table and not desperate for a striker again in January.

That cannot be judged ‘successful’ in my opinion.

You can migrate some of Richy goals by conceding less for a start
Then hope Maupay gets 8-10 which is close to Richy last year and then hope Gordon doubles last seasons total of 4.
DCL the big one an his fitness.

Do you think we be in a relegation battle? I think top 8 still

We now have a midfield that you “Simply can’t walk through” like we did last season
