KK would be the biggest 'statement' signing of all those mentioned so far.

In his prime, and would have beaten serious competition to sign him.

Could be the rock of the defence for a decade this guy.

Go on Everton.

he's 25, baring in mind he's a centre back, he's possibly 5 years away from his prime and already a starter for one the best teams in europe, a champions league regular. I still can't decide whether we should be paying this massive fee for one sole defender, rather than getting a benedict howedes and callum chambers for less fee combines. Then again, both may not even be available and their combined wages would probably be more, just think it would give a better depth to our centre back options.

It's a really good question and our instinct probably says the latter. It's been a long time since we basically blew big chunks of money on proven starters. Moyes I think felt nervous of getting big name players in as he found them hard to handle and we made a success of training up younger, cheaper players.

I think we are in a different situation now. Primarily because we have a manager who can handle bigger ego's. I also think as a squad we have more than enough potentially good players. What we need is real quality in key areas.

Chambers is a lad with potential, I'm not sure how much further advanced he is than say Galloway, or where Holgate may be in 12 months. Howedes is a great defender but does lack the physicality which I think we've been missing.

Coulibaly looks the perfect defender for what we required. Big, quick, strong and able to support the younger/smaller lads in the side.

I'd be amazed if we signed this lad. Some European football melt on TalkSport before reckoned we've got no chance.

These would have bee the same idiots would would have said any of the following;
1) Everton could never get Koeman
2) Everton would never sell Stones
3) If Everton kept Stones, they would never get the same money for him again.

Basically Jason Cundy.

I know mate. Wasn't Cundy like but I think we will struggle to be taken seriously until we get a big one over the line.

Koulibaly moving ahead nicely towards completion. Positive noises for sure.

i know you've said we'd go about our business regardless of if stones went or not, but is it purely coincidence this has moved forward now city have stepped up their pursuit of stones? Would we really spend £40m odd on a centre back regardless of if we sell one for £50m, i'm not convinced. Also, we'd struggle massive meeting FFP rules then surely? ha

it's my opinion that we would only go for a 'high profile' target like Koulibaly if we were going to sell Stones.

Think the entire premise of our window has been based on stones leaving mate, so really a high priced cb was always on the cards, just hope it ends up in this lad
