Kenwright leaving rumour

If Kenwright wasn’t running the club so badly and showed an ounce of ambition he would have kept him and demanded more money.

He was sold for peanuts and history shows it.

What has he achieved in the role? Only things I can think of are monumental mess ups and poor recruitment followed by poor recruitment.

Moshiri should have binned him and his other smalltime wasters off at the beginning.
Hear hear!

The biggest problem on the Rooney to Utd deal for me. Was the fact he only had 2 yrs to run on his contract. Why wasn’t the greatest talent to come through our ranks given the biggest deal possible, once he turned 18.

That may have been down to his agent.
A 7 yr deal on 20 k looks great in year one.
The way Rooney was progressing it would have been a bad deal by yr 3
The 20 k is only for example
I’ve no recollection of how much Romney’s deal was worth

We weren't that interested in keeping him in truth, we tried to flog him to Newcastle before the united deal even came up, there are several quotes from Alex Ferguson about this.

The quote I read, was Ferguson was waiting till the following year, when he’d have had a year left. And they would have got him even cheaper.

Utd wanted him for years. Again not sure how true this is, but the rumours coming out at the time, were that Ferguson and his agent lived near each other and regularly played golf together. The biggest tapping up in history, but the media didn’t give a s##t.
And good old everton didn’t kick up a fuss.

I think Rooney was going into the last twelve months of his contract when he was sold... maybe I am wrong.

Not strictly true Joey...there was a bid from Newcastle but this effectively was a 'stalking horse' to entice Man Utd in to bidding.Don't forget that Stretford the agent had offices actually in side St James Park. The Newcastle bid was just to get the ball rolling...a sort of fake bid if you like.....

See this is where I find this whole thing really odd. I feel like sometimes I defend Kenwright too much on here because I'm genuinely not a fan of his, but I just don't think some of the criticisms stack up - this is the perfect example.

You say yourself that 'the person in charge of it all' is at fault, but then blame Kenwright. It makes no sense. Moshiri is ultimately the man in charge. If he has delegated responsibility for transfers to somebody who is incompetent then using your own logic he is responsible. That's certainly the way it works in the sector I work in, if I made the decision to give a member of my staff responsibility for overseeing something and they failed, it would be my head on the chopping block first, not theirs.
Moshiri isnt in charge and thats the problem, he’s the largest share holder not the owner. There a big difference between the two. He’s not on the board so the day to day running is left to Kenwright and co.
He ran the manager search but Kenwright does all the transfer dealings, what Steve Walsh does is anyone guess

He signed a 3 year deal when he was 17 which is the longest that is allowed under the rules for a 17 year old. Rooney wouldn't sign another contract . But having two years left for the best player and youngest in the euros should have been enough to negotiate a record fee for him. I'm not sticking up for BK I don't like him but he couldn't have done much more with regard to Rooney singing a contract imo

Ive never had a problem with this deal, we had to sell him to give the money to the bank because of the mess peter Johnson had made, besides the following season was really good one. We coudlnt give him a big deal because we couldnt afford one, that sale pretty much kept us in business, grim times

There you go two totally different stories, says it all.

The only thing we can be sure of are the financials, which show how much trouble we were in.

The Rooney money saved us.
