Kevin Mirallas

He wouldn't have changed the game yesterday. We needed something different and on occasions this year Kone has offered that, as well as being able to get up and support Rom.

Mirallas is a totally different type of player. I imagine he will start next week.

Could you just, in a few words, show us what Kone has offered.

A) Hold up play - he is usually very good at it and gives us an option to go long or short
B) Getting up to support Rom and taking away a defender from Rom, who has scored the majority of goals when Kone has been on the picth

For a perfect example of when this worked excellently, I direct you to the last 30 minutes of the game at the Hawthornes in September...

Mirallas, as good as he is, is a player that thrives on the counter attack. We weren't exactly able to do much counter attacking yesterday...

He actually holds the ball up worse than Lukaku - here's the evidence.

Also, how's this for timing

Scores hattrick... gets new deal... form falls off a cliff.

In the current system, it's either Mirallas, Cleverley or Kone over on the left. Even if you ignore the mountain of statistical evidence, it is clear Kev should be the right pick.

I didn't say he held it up better than Rom though? I said he holds it up well (usually) and gets up to support Rom - that's true - so based on that I can see the logic in bringing him on yesterday.

And it isn't a clear pick at all though. Maybe on quality (on paper), yes, but Kev just isn't right for some of our games. I agree he should have played more this season, but his link up play is often poorer than Cleverley's and he hasn't got the same ability passing wise.

It's all about balance. Kev and Del doesn't work from the start. We're too samey on both flanks.

If Kev plays, it has to be with Lennon or Cleverley on the other side, IMO. Hopefully we will see him against Bournemouth.

When you say too 'samey' on both flanks, do you mean dangerous, exciting and creative? Because that's what it is. Balanced I call it.
Kone offers next to nothing, his wide/up front role is a nonsense which has been detrimental to the team most times we have tried it.

Nope. Swansea, first 15 minutes. We were dreadful. No excitement, no creativity. Nothing at all.

They're fine together when we're chasing a game - which is why it would have been good to see both of them come on yesterday, which is what I have also said.

It doesn't work from the start, though, IMO.

Mirallas would have added practically nothing yesterday. As has just been mentioned he has always looked decent on counter attacks, but is down the pecking order even in that regard now.
Even a team as determined to play football as Arsenal could only break down ten man Leicester today by winning a couple of headers. We really needed some more physicality yesterday and Rom wasn't at the races. Kone did offer something different but is clearly a confidence player and he's not going to be helped in that respect at Goodison.
Kev's lack of clever movement was what stood out last winter when we weren't even creating at Goodison. Worth keeping in the squad but not a player for a crisis.

Ball drops in the box, Who do you want on the end of it, Kev, Kone or Osman

Can you actually see where that isn't true??

With actual proof of it.

He does not hold the ball up well.

He barely challenges or wins headers.

It's quite literally recorded for you in empirical fashion.

but Kev just isn't right for some of our games

We've won less than a third of our games in the league in the last season and a half. There's barely a case anymore for the current way of doing things - the Kone / Cleverley axis of evil.

Let's just get Kev in. It genuinely can't be much worse.

As opposed to Kone not being right for all of our games.

And he hasn't started one since before Christmas?

He can be useful as a sub and helped us break down West Brom when we played them away from home last time.

There was logic in the sub. But don't let that get in the way of the fume.

But we played just fine and created a lot with Cleverley on the pitch yesterday? He has done nothing to deserve getting dropped in the last few games and most fair-minded people (Everton fans or otherwise) think he is playing well - which he is.

As for Kev/Kone, I don't think there is any doubt in who is the best player.

My argument is that, in the situation we were in yesterday, I could see the logic in bringing Kone on - it has worked before, primarily against Watford at home and West Brom away, when he's come on and changed the game.

I could have understood if he had wanted Kone to go up and play alongside Rom, but from what I saw he spent alot of time on the left wind or in midfield, not really anywhere near where he could have made a niusance of himself. Considering the position he ended up occupying I think Kevin would have been much more effective to be honest.
