Kevin Mirallas

Must be, as it can't be based on reality, as it's a player who has done literally nothing in almost 12 months. And that's being generous.

I'd understand Naismith/Lennon shouts more than Mirallas.

Well he's been involved in more goals in the last 12 months than Kone has in his entire Everton career for a start

Better balance, better set pieces, more shots, more goal threat, more pace on counter attack.

Apart from that, nothing.

Can you please balance this out with a knowledgeable post about how a head down instinctive player, who isn't known for linking the play or holding the ball up or creating space for others, may have altered, for the worse, the tactics we were using and that were serving us quite well?

in other words, can you please think of all the things a manager might think of and stop adding to the over simplification of every bloody part of a game by so many posters on here

I laughed but I have no idea what this means
I'm not sure I do either, but let's compare.

Reading some of the guff that gets posted on here, you'd think Mirallas had never passed a ball in his Everton career.

He's a quality footballer and one of only two reliable goalscorers in the squad. He should have been given a go tonight once Kone started slowing down.

He doesn't have sexy hair or do step overs so people instantly think he's poor.

His chemistry with Rom is fantastic, he adds a lot of physicality and takes defenders away from Lukaku. Not many teams can deal with the strength of both him and Rom, Palace did tonight but they've got a very good and solid defensive unit.
He is also about our only attacker who is useful at defending set pieces.

It is one of the weaker areas of Ross's game, Deulofeu isn't physical enough and can't recall Rom doing much either positive or negative on them.

Kone helps out with quite a few clearances, especially headers.

Can understand the shouts for Kev from an attacking sense, especially after Kone started tiring, but Martinez could well have worried about Palace sucker punching us again in a set piece, especially after swapping Galloway for Baines.

I don't see what could have been changed by fetching Mirallas on.

The team were superb.

We could easily have scored four or five.

Mirallas wouldn't have improved that team tonight.
Mirallas could have played from the left wing for the last 20mins and made the pitch wider. that would have given the lads in the middle more space and palace something to be worried about from that side. Kone was receiving the ball and was at walking pace before laying it off. Very easy to defend against.

think we conceded from a set piece

I think the problem with Kev is not down to him at all, it is down to the team, ala Fellaini.

Personally i loved fellaini, great player and didn't want to see him go. McCarthy was signed to replace him and you can see why, he fits into the team better and plays the role more. Which, is also applicable to Kev...

Mirallas is a selfish sort of player, the type who will look for goal when he can do, and often focus on that rather than being aware of the team mates positioning. Before, this was not an issue for us, he scored some great goals and was a key player in the team. Now he doesn't fit the mould, as the team is now building chemistry among themselves and linking up with each other. Rom/Kone/Del are all creating, Barkley is playing off their backs (hence the goals he seems to nab) and the system for the most part, works. Add kev into that and you remove a 'team' player, and add someone who may not look for the pass to the striker, or someone who loks to be the hero.

You can forgive Del for messing about because you know he is creating now, not just going for goal, but Kev sadly not in the same vein anymore. I'm not slagging Mirallas off, far from it, i rate him as a player and any other time would be first choice on the left, but i'd rather have a link up player in kone than a direct wingerr who likes to wander to the middle right now.

Perhaps mirallas saving grace could be the kone role if he picks up a knock?
