We need to be attractive to players way, way off first team minutes.

Top academies are attracting players that are barely teenagers or younger.

We need to show parents we know what we're doing and their kids have as a good a foundation for a career in football here as they would get at City/United/Liverpool etc.

Step one was finally binning off that utter waste of space Unsworth, playing his faves until they were well into their 20s in a development league.

If the club can demonstrate a properly functioning academy structure and a joined up coaching style that could well lead to a career somewhere we have a better chance of attracting that talent. (to use ourselves or sell on)

We do though for longer and more so than the RS and City. Apart from Gerrard, Cara, and Jay Spearing no one came through their academy for decades.

City have Phil Foden since...... Michael Johnson and Micha Richards....

More players have left our academy and played professional elsewhere at a good level that those two teams for years.

Unless you mean pinching Europeans....

Not really mate, City have made over £200 million out of their Academy in recent years , much of it has been buying in loads of youngsters and selling them on at a profit a few years later .The latest was Darko Gyabi who went to Leeds for around £5mill as part of the Phillips deal

It shows the biggest mistake was leaving Kenwright in a prominent role in the club.

Something we've known forever and something Thelwell can't do anything about really.
