Its probably going to take another year before we can see changes in this squad and allow us some room to spend big or pay big wages.

Our wage bill has dropped from 90 mill to 60 mill in 2 seasons.

We have players out on contract next year who take up another 20 mill a season wage.

Mina
Coleman
Allan
Doucoure
Davies
Townsend
Rondon
Begovic
Nkonkou

I cannot see more than 2 of the above staying with us after this season so we should be looking to sell or let go now/January.
Depends what division we are in..

Hello Kevin. Here is zero pounds, and zero pence. Now go sign some world class players with those monies, there's a good chap

belotti, dybala, eriksen, pogba, lingard

next

Wow. Are my eyes dreaming, or have I just seen the words 'world class' met with Pogba & Lingard?!?!...

Sweet Jehova of Bethlehem!

The other three are very good players I grant ya, but not a chance they'd be considering coming here ahead of two/three dozen other European clubs.

Also, those lads are not working for free. Thelwell is on an absolute hiding to nothing, expected to achieve results with his hands tied behind his back.

well how does one define "world class" because its meaning is about as subjective as every parent who thinks their child is the best child in the world

Generally speaking it pretty much means "the absolute elite", "nobody better", etc. It's not a complicated nor trick concept.

I'd wager most people wouldn't class Pogba or Lingard as world class (I can think of 50 better players in their positions off the top of my head); same goes for Dybala and Eriksen and Belotti, even though they are good players.

Not an ounce of interest from the likes of Madrid or Barca or Bayern or City or PSG or the RS or any other European top level club should tell you their status as to being regarded as "world class". (One just signed for newly promoted Forest after hawking himself around the MLS and Saudi, and another picked ManU ahead of Brentford). Now if Mbappe or Haaland or VVD or Lewandowski or DeBruyne were available on a free, the queue would be out the door.

there's always going to be a debate about who is world class or who is an "elite player". The same way the debate that rages on who is better between Messi and Ronaldo. Its always going to be a subjective opinion.

by the way i would probably argue that a world cup winner who started 6 out of the 7 games and scored in the final is probably an elite player.

For 10 years the debate has been 'Messi or Ronaldo', not 'Messi or Ronaldo or Jesse Tiktok or The dabbing haircut or the bloke from Torino'.

Mario Goetze scored a world cup winning goal, is he an elite player? Franny Jeffers has 1x more Prem winners medals than Suarez, how bout him?

what I think or what anyone else thinks is irrelevant because its all subjective
Fair enough; but we're shopping around the freebies from the likes of Shalke or Burnley or Hoffeheim or Bordeaux or Chelsea Loan Dept, not top level names. The top names have never heard of us, and we're maybe looking at names most fans haven't heard of.

I wouldn't be expecting any major coups anytime soon (although that Rondon/Messi swap deal would make Jim White's head explode).
