This seems to just be a thread to vent so I doubt this will be appreciated but of the people culpable in the current mess, he is the least. The squad he assembled is very much capable of being above 19th and he's doing it with almost no money to speak of.

McNeil and Maupay were bad signings but you can at least see some justification for both of them, moreso Maupay than McNeil. They have all been horribly mismanaged.

Absolutely zero justification for McNeil. A team desperate for goals shouldn’t buy a winger with his utterly pathetic goals/assist record in the PL last season.
I agree mate. I think the thinking of the signing was he was in a limited/defensive role at Burnley and being in a more free-flowing team would let his natural talent he had shown earlier in his career show, but as we have seen not only has the football remained turgid but he has proven himself to only be capable of occasional brilliance.

If you think this bloke is here to be anything other than another layer of shielding for the incompetent board, you need to give your heads a good shaking. Clearly doing that job as I found this post at the top of the forum.

I have no idea if he is good or bad but if we are going to have a DoF now is the exact time to let him do his job - if he wants to sack Frank, sack Frank, and let him and no one else pick the replacement. Sell whatever players we can (Gordon / DCL / Pickford) and let him bring in players he wants with an actual budget - if he was chasing Kudus and Mudryk in the summer he and his team obviously have some talent ID ability.

I thought we had said sale only on him as Southampton tried to loan him about a week ago. Unless it was purely down to not strengthening a rival team type thing.

There is a hell of a lot of stuff on twitter about Newcastle bidding for him, all the main journo's are posting about it. It's one of those, a lot would want to keep him but it could give us money to save our season.

One thing is certain, Thelwell needs to be moving players out.

Benitez didnt do it 18months ago and again Thelwell didnt do it (loans only) last summer.

How can you not supply the manager with attacking players like this...he needs to sell and reinvest pronto.

Was just going to post much the same.

Reading the player threads it’s clear we can all see there too many misfits never going to be good enough for a first team start. They’re all still here, some of them playing every week, some not playing and contributing nothing.

We need to move players on. What is this guy doing. Assembled the most toothless squad in living memory, hiding behind Lampard. Show some urgency!!

Hopefully the news is true about him picking the next manager, shows that finally have gave the dof more power and can run the football side of the team. Hard to judge him with little time at the club will be interesting to see what he goes for

Why wasn’t this done earlier given the results we were getting? Have contingency plans in place should a sacking happen.

There is no foresight there. It’s all reactionary. Even with managers still there you talk to agents, sound people out should a replacement be needed.

Hope that they have but this board/club just taken away any thoughts that they can be professional out the window
