If / When we get relegated Thelwell, like many before him, will be used as a scapegoat but not without signing a well paid non disclosure clause, again like many before him. Whilst the board sit back on their enormous salaries and sloping shoulders on another fall guy, ' Rinse, Sack, Repeat ' !!
But it is very much at least partly his fault that we haven’t signed a capable striker in the two windows he’s been in charge of.

He won’t be a scapegoat, he’s crap

I mean Maupay is a centre forward. Without McNeill (who I'm not a big fan of FYI) we'd be stuck with Gray and Iwobi as our only wide options right now.

I don't think anyone expect Maupay to stink the gaff out quite so much. He's a proven PL goalscorer but looks miles off it for us.
He's 6 inches too short and 2 stone too light to play as a centre forward, he is a second striker at best.

They are all to blame
Benitez has nothing to do with this season and being honest his points tally at the start of last season ultimately kept us up as Lampard was taking us down last year even with Richarlison.

Moshiri takes some previous blame but has had nothing to do with recruitment this season and has largely kept away from footballing matters.

Kenwright as chairman runs the football operation and has failed for near 2 decades.

Lampard has put us in a perilous position after losing big games to relegation rivals Bournemouth, Wolves, Southampton and with just 3 wins in 20 league games has the worst record since Mike Walker.

Its clear to me who is responsible and it isn't Thelwell or Benitez who only draw so much heat because one supported LFC as a boy and the other once managed em...
,
I couldn't give a Donald duck who Thelwell supported as a boy, I do care that he has had 2 transfer windows and has still brought no adequate cover in for the perennially injured Calvert Lewin. Moshiri has mismanaged the club and has employed several managers, including Benitez, who he has had to pay off at huge expense, had this not been the case, perhaps we would have had a bigger transfer budget. As for Lampard, you are right, he was totally out of his depth. However, to try and absolve your friend 'big Kev' from his very large share of the blame just doesn't wash.

Big Kev signed Onana and Tarks who've been two of our best players this season Roy.

Gana has been up and down but still one of our better players and McNeil has done more than £40 millions "starboy" and looks rejuvenated under Dyche.

Yes its dissapointing we couldn't get a striker over the line in January but have faith in the process. Kudus, Danjuma and Mudryk being scouted suggests he at least has an eye for a player.

If he had the dough Brands and Walsh had - put those 3 in our side and Richarlison up top who we wouldn't have needed to have sold and we're a top 10 side under Dyche.

Fine margins my friend.

So £16m Maupay would been a better option than this lad on a cheap loan? Don’t make me laugh. Clueless poster.

Mate?

This man is 28 and never scored goals at a good level.

You are proving my point. We are in the bargain basement.

Thellwell has his hands tied behind his back, plus a lot of the signings we made would have been Lampard signings.

Ridiculous to blame a director of football when the club is a financial mess.

How’s it ridiculous? He had money to spend, he spent it on McNeil and Maupay.

It's his failure to bring in a centre forward that will in all probability relegate us. I think Onana is a great signing, but, I believe we would have had a better chance of survival this season without him, than we do without a centre forward. It's all about priorities and Thelwell has got his badly wrong.

Is Thelwell entirely to blame for this mess? No.

Is he partly to blame for this mess? Yes.

That’s just the truth of it. At best he’s been pointless, at worst he’s been a catastrophe.

Utterly bizarre this clamour to absolve him of ALL blame whatsoever. Don’t understand the motivation behind it tbh, other than people simply not wanting to live in a world where they were wrong about something.

I think it's ridiculous you use the league someone has played in to judge whether they could help Everton survive to be perfectly honest.

You should get a job at the club; you'd suit their current ethos.

Yes, maybe somebody scoring goals in the Belgian league might not be able to replicate that for one of the worst teams in the premier league.

Clueless me.
