2022/23 Kevin Thelwell

Impossible to judge Thelwell until we know he has been given a full remit to operate the DoF role.
We already have the testimony of Brands about the difficulty of operating in the Byzantine structure of Everton.
We have had years of independent observers and commentators who have dealings with our club citing the confused nature of their dealings, with our club.
I wonder what role Sharp was promoted to the board to fulfil?
My suspicion is that he operates as Kenwrights unofficial DoF effectively acting to undermine and weaken Thelwells position.

But if he's not fixing the problem (which he definitely isn't) then he's part of the problem (which he definitely is)

Every person holding any one position at Everton Football Club can be held accountable and should be judged. No one gets or deserves a free pass and Thelwell falls into that.

Can you jmagjne being a DoF and if we get relegated he goes "we'll it wasn't my fault the recruitment was crap as that wasn't my remit" when that is a HUGE part of what he's supposed to oversee.

Even if we survive, he simply has to be sacked along with the rest of the board.

I disagree , referring to Brands public comments, it is evident that any DoF would find it extremely difficult to operate in the environment created by our wholly dysfunctional board.
Unless and until this chaotic situation is resolved it is impossible to cast definitive judgement on people subject to this poor governance.

We can either judge him for his terrible signings (or lack of) or judge him for doing absolutely nothing. Either way he should be removed.

He has also been engaged in restructuring the club, he is not primarily a scout.
Again , given that we know from the previous DoF some of the difficulties and strictures placed on him in attempting to do his job, I would much prefer to judge him when given the chance to operate in coherent, correctly administered club, something Everton patently are not.
Worst case scenario is that he is scapegoated to appease the supporter unrest and this allows the board continue in place.
Unless we remove this board and install people with vision and ability in their place no DoF and no manager will have a chance of succeeding in any meaningful way,

He has no previous track record of success as a DOF in his career that convinces me we should hand him control of football operations. He should follow the rest of the board down the road.

This lad is just an employee (of Bill who calls the shots) and is thus expendable.

Denise and Graham however have personal connections and won’t be as readily discarded. Same as the other pet sycophants on easy money with no pressure from Stuart to Pienaar and there are many other silent others. When push comes to shove, relegation or just survival, this numptie Thelwell is just treading water. Too easy as a first sacrifice for Kenright.

Bill has his blame agents lined up and ready. It’s theatrical to Bill.

Coady
Vinagre
McNeil
Tarkowski
Maupay
Gana
Garner
Onana

Looks worse every week that summer window, never mind the January farce.

Coady (loan), Tarkowski, Onana, Garner and McNeil are all signings that look good on paper and should prove to be shrewd in time.

Vinagre, Maupay and Gana were poor and the £13mil spent on transfer fees looks poor business. We should get a decent chunk back this summer.

Tark is a complete mess. His passing in the derby game was atrocious. As for Onana, can't help feeling the same.

Football is not for you.

Decent chunk for who?

The world class 1 in 18 striker presumably

Coady is probably as good now as he's going to get and hasn't been all that good. Tarkowski has been reasonably good and with a manager he's very used to he might be better next season compared to this, presuming of course that said manager survives to the start of next season. Onana should be better next season, as long as he doesn't have his head turned by some other club and demand to leave. Garner and McNeil nobody knows, could be decent, could be awful.

Time will tell how much there'll be to spend in the summer, depending on what league we're in. On the super optimistic side we stay in the PL and get new investment to try and break out of the cycle we're in and Thelwell either makes his name and reputation or gets pushed out the door. On the pessimistic side, we go down and it becomes a fire sale to try and get players who are willing to put their back into trying to win promotion and Thelwell probably gets the blame no matter what he does.

Tough to see him survive and prosper from here given what happened in January.

Cant disagree with any of that.

We probably have half a dozen players that are good enough for a 1st 11.

In theory we should be able to attack the market as soon as we know our fate. Stay up and we'll have the Kean money in addition to whatever was there in January.

The trick will be to focus on "only" 3 signings to come straight into the team.

Central midfielder
Right winger
Centre forward

Whatever funds we have must be used on those three positions + further funds must be generated from player sales for improvements at full back.
