Because Lampard wanted him & he cost relative peanuts. Brighton also let us sign him on the drip which is why we couldn't get a deal done for Cornet as Burnley wanted a big chunk of the fee up front which we couldnt do.

Chris Wood went for £25 millions as a comparison. Richarlison who only scored 2 more last season than Maupay went for £50 millions and had we not been desperate for the funds we'll have likely held out for £60m+

Chris Wood went for £25 millions as a comparison. Richarlison who only scored 2 more last season than Maupay went for £50 millions and had we not been desperate for the funds we'll have likely held out for £60m+

Chris Wood went on loan you absolute cabbage, and he’s outscored Maupay by 15 in the same amount of time in the Premier League.

It didn’t need to be a big money purchase, just someone who can do better than the 1 in 24 one we paid £15m for. There’s dozens of strikers across Europe, South America etc that could have been brought in for under £15m, our scouting network just doesn’t bother looking

We do tend to focus far too much on 'PL experience' being a key criteria of any player/manager we sign when the reality is it's gotten us nowhere in recent years.
