Name me some strikers we were linked with who we could have afforded ?

Its easy slating others for their opinions whilst offering nothing to the debate other than "ffs Kev la why u no sign Alveraz over Man City".

Youre partly right. It was widely stated at the time that we got both McNeil and Maupay on back ended deals -- tiny amounts up front. Same as we were hearing about our rumoured January bids...minimal fees paid up front.

So in that sense, correct we didnt have funds to sign a top player whose team wanted paying a chunk.

At the same time, we were linked with the likes of Mudryk and Kudus. Both now rated in the multiples of what we were offering...

...the one he got right was Onana in terms of his value increasing.

So, for me seeing those names (and others) linked gives me a thread of faith that he may be able to bring in quality if given the chance.

Brereton Diaz
Gyokores
Moffi
David

There’s 4 for you, all would have cost about the same as what we paid for Maupay,

The most disappointing thing is the one @Eggs rated, Moffi.

He's gone to Nice but only on loan and of course with a 25mil EUR guaranteed fee in the summer.

Quattara who went to Bournemouth is another shocker of a miss...same as the boy Ndiaye it seems.

I think all these players (and more as its common in europe) could have been signed for small fees up front and then the actual guaranteed payments begin in the summer.

Wahi we were also linked with stayed in Montpelier and has hit 11 goals from 21 starts. 20 year old French u21 player.

Some of the players linked fit the profile...cheap up front costs.

Stay up and we could look back and think we've gotten away with it...had a good FFP year to set us up well for the next two.

But I do find it strange that young, quality players are linked and its very rare any sign.

What kind of idiot (Moshiri/Kenwright) sacks Lampard before getting Danjuma in?

If Thelwell had given Lampard a centre forward in Jan + Danjuma we'd be well out of this.

I am of the opinion he's been mostly blocked from player recruitment due to the prevailing dark shadow of the FA watching our every move! I think he's had much more involvement in other sectors of the club, which was alluded to by Mosh in his fan zone interview. However, the whole Danjuma affair seemed a bit amateur hour. Does anyone know why we didn't clamp his signature down before jettisoning Lamps? Was it just us being polite? Would other clubs have operated similarly?

Spectacularly unbalanced squad he’s achieved.

Why did we go into the season with six centre backs when the manager was going to be playing 433. Stacked at centre back with no forward/goal scoring options.

I’d just assumed he must have tried his best to get buyers for the likes of Holgate, Mina, Keane, Godfrey but no takers.

Then you read Michael Keane last week saying there were teams in for him during the summer, he wanted to go but the club told him they weren’t going to listen to offers. Why?

Lampard was never going to play Keane, we were desperate to trim wages and raise funds. Why are we not wanting to listen to offers for a player the manager doesn’t want, who is a reasonably high earner, who wants to go and in a position we have loads of cover?

Keane said other teams were in for him?

WTAF WTH WTF

Who.plays in his place then? Baring in mind we could of sold him but nobody was going to want to come and replace him anyway, so we had to keep him

What do you mean, who plays in his place? Lampard wasn’t going to play him, sidelined him the whole season. Lampard played Tarks and Coady didn’t he. And if one of those two got injured he had Mina, Godfrey and Holgate.

I actually don’t mind Keane, particularly in a Duche set up, he’s a lot more suited to it than Godfrey, Holgate, Coady.

The point is, it’s a position we’re stacked in, we’re threadbare in other areas of the squad, we need to sell to buy, the manager at the time didn’t want him, he wanted to go and teams we’re interested - what possible basis is there to say you’re not interested in listening to offers?

More generally, if that’s the approach to Keane, who else could we have moved on that we’ve just kept for no apparent reason - leaving that forward line as under stocked as it is.

If Thewell got Lampard Haaland and Mbappe we wouldn't be out of it because he's a god awful manager
