Every single human being on earth who has heard of the sport knew what you would be getting with Maupay. Even if you were going to play him as a kind of second striker who was there at the time to knock them in off him?

They were better off taking a flier on a Leandro Rodriguez or a Joao Silva type. Hell even that Coventry bloke might’ve been worth a punt. Even if one of them had failed not a single person would’ve said “well Neal Maupay was available at Brighton, why didn’t we sign him?”.

I know all of the DoF’s have been massively hamstrung by the mental board but that still doesn’t mean the board got the hiring of this bloke right. Crap breeds crap.

Gomes, Davies, Iwobi. as a 3
Gomes, Iwobi, Mcneil, Grey as a 4

In all fairness we could have had Iwobi in the middle instead of Gana and it probs would have made little difference. Gama has been a complete waste of money.
I disagree that he's been a complete waste of money. He's not been great but he's still done a lot of the donkey work. Think I read last week that he's completed the most interceptions in the league so far. Which is one of his main jobs.

If that Kudus deal had got across the line things could have been much different.

Coming out of the January window with no striker though remains inexcusable.
I’m genuinely not convinced it would have been - he’s effective in a stylish, functional possession based football team which we are not….there was no outlet also for his creativity as we had no effective striker so other than the chances he fashions for himself I don’t think he would have been too effective in our set up. It’s great identifying individually good footballers, but we only ever seem to do that once every couple of seasons.

Interesting video from Tifo football looking at United, City and Arsenal players and ages...now and in 3 seasons time.

I think alot of the new signings will have been brought in with this in mind...stay up and this is how we could look with the 3 season plan at the start of the 25/26 season.

Pickford32
Patterson24 Tarkowski33 Branthwaite24 ??
Garner25 Onana24
??? ??? Mcneil(26)
???

A new left back, and three attacking players with young profiles and high potential should be on Thelwells list (unless brought through from u21s).

Aside from Pickford, its basically a new team than 12 months ago.

Even with Mykolenko we can see that it appears to be part of a new rebuild.

Perhaps theres some method behind the scenes?

Maybe 'much different' is a stretch and to be fair I've only watched him at the world cup. Thought he was quick with flair and an eye for goal. Exactly what we're missing.

Don’t get me wrong mate, yes I’ve only had limited experience of seeing him like you but thought he was explosive, but I think in our team his impact would only have been from him making his own chances and flashes of brilliance. Who knows those flashes may have been enough to add a few additional points to our season, but I think his impact would have been significantly reduced in a team like ours. That’s why players like Kudus generally tend to have higher market value in teams where they suit the style and fit into the pattern of play

Hes mostly played as a CF (similar to a Firminho / Kane dropping deep) or on the right side.

I think he'd have been a brilliant signing so i agree with @Amokachi1995

Id go as far as saying if we had Kudus + Jonathan David from Lille in our team we'd probably be very close to top 6.

As i posted earlier...were probably only 4 players short of a 'mid-term' rebuild...in the first 11.

if we can just bring in 2 players this summer and then 2 again next summer while 'losing' 17+ out of contract and sales then we'd really look a different team.

If we had say £30-40mil this summer then id rather we punted a few (Maupay/Keane/Iwobi etc) and just went for 2 top players rather than a scattergun approach.

Gana was a waste of money...big wages i imagine but only a £2-3mil fee i think.

Onana and Garner at £42mil for the pair seems to be good business.

Keep both for 12months and i imagine we'd make a £30mil++ profit.

Wouldnt make any sense to me to keep a player not able to play in the prem...for the league below which is more helter skelter and games come thick and fast.

Sell to Lille.
We're paying him 100k a week. He's not doing it for the good of his heart

It’s quite a lot that though isn’t it. It’s nearly half an outfield team And god knows how many transfers we’d have to go through and over what time period. We would have to kiss a lot of frogs to get our princes wih our track record of signing players. It reminds me of the 90s team….by and large we were terrible other than the first full season under Royle but we had Beardsley, Kcanchelskis, Speed, Barmby (who was highly rated at the time) but all crossing paths with each other….we never seem to be able individual stars playing in the same set up.

No DOF cannot function effectively in this environment.

This will end in the same way as Brands probably.

He will probably continue, but it wouldn't surprise me either if he resigned in the summer.

If new investment materialises, they may re-assess him then in any case.
