Being fair here, they all played a part. Everyone was very excited by Onana early doors. The latter two stepped up late on.

Maupay is the one that just did not work. My view it was a desperation signing. What we could afford on wages and fees. Also who would join / whose club would sell. Some will argue we could have got someone from the Championship with potential, but again, it may just have been down to who would join or was available. It could also have been a preference for someone 'who knows the league'.

Whatever, it didn't go well.
Might be a controversial opinion but I felt after the summer transfer window that we did good business given the money we had. I think one of our biggest problems was Lampard. Had we had a competent manager from the start we would have finished 6-12 points better off by the end of the season and that might have been considered a decent season given our spending restraints.

Maupay obviously didn't work out but I do remember thinking when we signed him that the pool of striker's to choose from at the time was poor. Apart from him the rest played their part

…when Brands objects to the Rondon transfer & Moshiri says it’s ‘a present for Benitez’, it tells you all you need to know about how the club is run.

Thelwell left us exposed in a key position, he has to go.

Totally disagree about getring rid of him.

With a bit of money last season we'd have bad Kudus, Mudryk, Gakpo and a couple of decent centre forwards.

The names that were linked last summer have now had big moves and/or their values increase.

Also, Onana, Tarkowski, McNeil, Garner have all been good signings...the only dodgy ones being Maupay for £12mil, Gana for £2mil and Vinagre loan.

I'd like to see what Thelwell can do this summer.

Hasn't Mudryk been a complete flop?

He cost £88.5mil and we offered £26mil.

A then 21 year old coming into a new league probably needs a season to adapt (Onana).

But it showed that Thelwell was looking at players whose values increased massively over a few months. Also that Kudus, Mudryk and Gakpo were the positions we needed to fill.

Now he will know we need an attacking midfielder, forward and a winger if theres money to spend then hopefully he goes for similar targets u23 and high potential.

Anything like those 3 and Onana and their values could double.

Realistically he needs to be exploring the loan market as soon as possible. I think with the stadium and boardroom upheaval the likelihood of any real budget without sales is unlikely and instead waiting round cap in hand till the end of the window he needs to be aggressive from the get go.

This fella isn’t the head of recruitment and the club didnt have one for months after Brands best mate left. Dan Purdy was promoted to the position in Feb this year. it’s a good job Thelwell isnt going to be involved as much in recruitment now because even thinking about signing Maupey, who is as unsuitable to this squad as any player I can think of, was criminal given the lack of finances abailable and the clubs financial situation.
It’s also well documented that the blinding odious toad of a chairman has his bloated and incompetent fingers all over the recruitment side and has to sign off on any transfer after a dossier is put together for him to review. He really thinks he’s a footballing guru, what a narcissistic chancer.
Kenwright shouldn’t be allowed to be anywhere near negotiating contracts (another enormous reason the club is on its knees) or making any football decisions on recruitment (because he is a semi professional actor who now excels only at shouting at people on set if his latte is tepid) we all know how disastrous this has been at Everton for years. Until that is addressed and he’s fired into the sun this club will keep collecting “premier league experienced” turds that won’t flush.
Thelwell is essentially an area manager overseeing the performance of his minions but if Chairman Bull is in any way remotely involved in the process then it’s never going to work, direct your ire at that meddling, jealous, vindictive old drama queen.
