Totally disagree about getring rid of him.

With a bit of money last season we'd have bad Kudus, Mudryk, Gakpo and a couple of decent centre forwards.

The names that were linked last summer have now had big moves and/or their values increase.

Also, Onana, Tarkowski, McNeil, Garner have all been good signings...the only dodgy ones being Maupay for £12mil, Gana for £2mil and Vinagre loan.

I'd like to see what Thelwell can do this summer.
Even Gana wasn't a bad deal at the price on a short-term deal. Like Coady, those are no-brainers at the price for a squad as thin as the one he inherited.

Yes, Maupay was a brick. As I've said, Vinagre doesn't bother me. You sign eight players, you get a sick note. That was the best one of the lot to be it.

Id rather he signed the Kudus, Mudryk, Gakpo types before they are global names...like he did with Onana.

Everyone was fuming at the time but not wasting huge fees on Tall Paul, Sulemana, Rutter McKennie Tete Orisc etc. looks a better idea now than wasting another 50 mill and being in the same position. Obviously the ideal would have been getting in someone good but even Danjuma barely got on the pitch for Spurs.

Leicester Leeds and Southampton are now in the positions they didn’t want to be but to add to their woes they’ve put millions down the drain on players who have added nothing.

Sulemana looks good TBF.

Sulemana looks good TBF.

He’s only scored a few goals though and most of them were on the last day against Liverpool. I’m not sure he’d have moved the dial for us and he was decent money. Outtara at Bournemouth might have helped but there’s not many January deals the relegation threatened clubs made that you think we definitely missed out on.

Without having anything substantial to back it up, I've pondered whether Vinagre was a deal required rather than desired based on previous interferences.

Last year, our defence and midfield were shambolic, so Thelwell prioritised those areas. Now, it's our forward line that needs sorting, so hopefully it's the priority.

Never saw it that way. He was cheap cover. Didn't work out that way, but a Prem squad is like an Indy 500 car decades ago. Parts will break. The only question is whether or not the loss of the part is catastrophic.

How any DOF looked at the squad and thought sell Richarlison and replace him with Maupay is enough is staggering. We need 3 strikers - we have DCL, a crock, Maupay who is crap, Simms who at best needs a loan. So we need a brand new frontline. I don’t trust Thelwell to do this after last season.

That's not a positive

remember when sarr scored a few goals past them as well but look at him, he's still at watford playing in the championship althought he has had 17 goal contributions this season in the championship which i guess is decent

Last thing we should be going for is player that rejected us because we were not good enough for them
I didn't say that. I just think he looks a good player.

Yes I don't know what was going at Soton and why he wasn't playing often. But whenever he played he looked dangerous.

I didn't think Maupay was a replacement for Richarlison. More a back up - second striker and we didn't buy a replacement for Richarlison or Gordon or Lukaku for that matter.

He cost £88.5mil and we offered £26mil.

A then 21 year old coming into a new league probably needs a season to adapt (Onana).

But it showed that Thelwell was looking at players whose values increased massively over a few months. Also that Kudus, Mudryk and Gakpo were the positions we needed to fill.

Now he will know we need an attacking midfielder, forward and a winger if theres money to spend then hopefully he goes for similar targets u23 and high potential.

Anything like those 3 and Onana and their values could double.
I personally would sell onana if a good offer came in and use the money to invest elsewhere. I still see him as potential and potential could go either way and I fear that there is something about him that will mean he won't progress a great deal. Of course I could be wrong. But if someone like Arsenal came in now with a 75 million bid I would snap their hand off
