Has to prove himself this window, otherwise yet another DOF here to bite the bullet.
I think this will be another car crash, he hasn`t proven to have any ability as a DoF......

Knew we needed a striker last summer, signed Maupay...

Left Maupay as the only fit senior striker in January....

His 1st decision this summer is new contracts for Davies and Lonergan!!!

We are going to end up worse again, if that is the case we are next seasons Southampton....

Southampton spent money. We have none unless we get a refund for non-service from Saint Bill. He must have a few bob with Everton stamped on it.

Maupay aside (which really is a black mark) it could also be of course that he has to take instructions from the clubs financial overlords. For example, yes he could have got a lot better value and a more appropriate profile of player for the amount spent on Maupassant so that is in him and a Lampard, but if we hadn’t been forever to sell Richarlison at the value we did, he could have had more money to spend on better quality (it looks like they were intent on getting Onana) - I think he was also restricted in having to deal with clubs who would allow more generous instalments, so it’s not all on him, but he’s not been great so far. I just now look at three DoFs and they have all seemingly failed. The question is why. Were they poor or is their performance a symptom and not a cause if the general malaise in the club.

…I’m of a view that Brands was key to keeping the madhouse afloat.

I think the longer time goes, the more changes that are made and the more things stay the same, whilst not entirely innocent, you do wonder whether Brands was a dissenting voice of reason, especially when he gives some soundbites around what it was like to work at the club. There was also an agent who in an interview a while back, said to get a transfer agreed, three calls needed to be made - one to the DoF, one to the Chairman, one to the owner. It’s like the funhouse at Southport

….the transfer process has been a joke but Brands worked WITH all managers until Benitez refused to speak to him, was popular with the players as well as both factions on the Board. Transfers were a mess but I think his diplomacy at least kept the madhouse together.

That's Kenwright there though wanting to stick his 2p worth in when there is no need for it. Really it should be a process of once a player has been identified, the DoF should just go straight to the money guy (Moshiri) and ask him "Can we afford this player?" Why the hell Bill needs to get involved I have no idea.

Agreed. It does make you wonder though, that if BK is sticking his nose in where it’s not wanted, why Moshiri wouldn’t pull him on it. The more I think about it, I think there has been a division of labour in the senior positions. Manager / DoF / BK on playing staff and contracts. Moshiri / DBB / Chong on stadium

This is what I don’t get. Surely everyone can see that in order to make the last 3 years P&S look good, no incomings will be happening before year end.

I doubt there’ll be any formal movement before the ownership position is concluded. What player wants to join a club that could be completely different a week after he signs. Thelwell Dyche Baxendale Kenwright could all be out (although I don’t think Dyche and Thelwell will be but who knows what MSP might say once the ink is dry)
