I mean, on one hand I get not making just sweeping changes is the right move but if we're doing a complete and utter clean slate, this lad should be going too. Just add more cash to the giant pile of burning notes already on fire tho I guess.

I think this window is his make or break. He hasnt had much of anything to spend, but meanwhile got 90million for 2 players, and brough in Onana, McNeil, Garner, Gueye and Tarkowski for a combined 56million. His one obvious blunder is Maupay. 5 of the 6 have either proven themselves or look very promising, and thats way more than I can say for our sad state of transfers this past decade.

Im not saying hes going to be any good, but hes earned more goodwill than he getting, as instead hes getting the blame for the boards refusal to fund. If he is allowed some funding and doesnt succeed its on him. If he has some similar success I think everyone's tune will change.

I just don’t get that the director of football can be blamed when he has been operating on the budget he has. He secured big bucks for Gordan, bought in onana on a deal that will likely see us make a profit. Everything else has been fire fighting survival

So you don't think it's utterly ridiculous we didn't even bring in a striker on loan/free in two windows last season when we were desperate?

….he nearly got us relegated with his gross negligence of not bringing in an effective striker in 2 windows. As you say, Maupay was a poor signing but let’s not forget we started last season with Gordon as a central striker. Maupay was not only a dreadful signing, he also came in way to late.

He doesn’t deserve any goodwill as far as I’m concerned, he’s very much one of those accountable for us nearly going down.

Or.
We couldn't afford to pay the loan fee and wages cause of ffp.
I honestly feel last seasons dealings had 1 aim. Bring the losses down.
Wouldn't be surprised to see it again this seaaon.
With the rolling 3 year thingy, we have this last season and the previous 2 seasons to take into account. I wouldn't be surprised if we are still hampered in our spending.

Most likely we will spend whatever we bring in, in sales this summer. I expect Onana and Grey maybe Simms and Dobbin if we can get buyers, to go and then we will spend close to that amount. If not less. Could even see us trying to make a profit this year to help for the following season.

The man is seriously hammpered in what he can do. Hopefully he has lined up some unknown bargain names.

Sorry but you can't whack £30m down on Onana and then try tell me we couldn't afford a loanee striker.

We would’ve been absolutely no worse off if we hadn’t signed Onana last season, he has potential but he has had no impact on the pitch for us. If we’d banked the £30m we’d be no worse off, and if we’d spent that money on an actual striker worth his salt we’d almost certainly have been better off.

You can if that was the max budget.

Then don’t sign Garner. Yes, the lad looks promising but we weren’t short in central midfield, we were desperately short of attacking options. It was a massive gamble that should have relegated us tbh.

We should’ve signed Garner and not bothered with Onana. He is not and was never what we need right now.
