Well we can be quite sure that we won't have a striker in before Stoke so that leaves one pre-season game left. If we don't have one in by then it's disgustingly poor.

This has been happening since the later days of Walter Smith. Moyes always had to wait until the Sky Money hit or we sold our yearly best player. It's only been the few seasons the our owner was able to blow millions that we have brought players in early.
I get the feeling that a lot of our targets are choosing other clubs? As we've been in a relegation battle for two years and the Saudi money is about can't blame the players for that. But it makes it harder to sell the club to them.

I relieved we have signed the two we have. Hopefully we'll get another forward in before the first game, the. Can look at some loans to get the squad built up.

Would you rather sell a player or loan them out?

I’d like to sell. this entire squad but there are players on the planet available for loan. We clearly have some money but we should be battering the loan market. Thelwell is clearly way out of his depth and his inaction was a big part in us nearly getting relegated.

So why will clubs loan us players when they have a chance to sell them first?

Majority of loan deals for senior players will happen towards the end of the window when they just want the wage bill off the books. We as a club could have loaned Gomes out already but are probably waiting to try and get some sort of transfer for him first.

This summer was always going to be difficult to get deals sorted due to lack of upfront fees we can afford.

Just for balance this morning, let's remember he got the Geordie's to pay up to £45m for a hughly ineffective player.

So if they happen towards the end of the window why wasn’t our incredible DOF snapping them up in the last two windows? He’s had two attempts and failed and we are sleepwalking into a third with him
