So if they happen towards the end of the window why wasn’t our incredible DOF snapping them up in the last two windows? He’s had two attempts and failed and we are sleepwalking into a third with him

Maybe the right type of player wasn't available.

Money is tight and will be for the rest of this season.

Compared to Brands and Walsh he has a much tougher job. Limited cash due to FFP while for the majority of time Walsh and Brands had a massive credit card limit to do a supermarket sweep in Waitrose. Now, we are shopping in Lidl looking at the out of date gear.

If you were Thelwell and had no pot to pee in regarding funds for a striker, and a club facing relegation. Who would you sign that you believe the fans would be happy with?

…what a ridiculous question. Posters on here aren’t paid £millions to analyse and identify targets in a global market that meet budget and team requirements. Teams who are struggling financially and performance wise still manage to bring in strikers.

Ffs, its the blokes job.

I'd have signed this guy on loan last Summer then triggered the option which was like £7m

It is his job and will be paid very well for it.

Reality is our budget will limit the options we have and it will be mid to late August when our deals get done as the selling club will accept our terms.

Interestingly, it would appear that Thelwell suggested Toure as a signing last summer, but the Chairman went for Maupay citing "Premier League experience" as a must. This is where it starts to get murky for me and laying all the blame at Thelwell's door becomes silly.

Weirdly I want this to be true. Just adds to my chairman Bill hate.

Cahill Baines Peinaar Arteta off the top of my head as some of our best players. All with no PL experience when we signed (maybe Baines)

We offered money for Toure, we have some money even if it is incremental
And if you use that incremental money down payment on a loan fee then you cannot sign anyone permanently? Awful situation but we have been here before under Bill and Moyes where we are linked with everyone and end up with no one, sadly this is tried and tested ground for our illustrious chairman he has being playing this hand for years and years and getting away with it

Why do the fans need to be happy with it? Loads of our fans would be happy with Gnonto this year but they wouldn’t have been last year if we’d signed the same player for £4m. The same player. The fans are clueless and the DOF absolutely should know players better than them. He should have a dossier of players from around the world with the attributes we need that also fit into our budget requirements.

Mate if we are in the market for £28m Toure we can afford to get some players in on loan.

Sean knows who we need, who could we get with Thelwell's salary?

Also I heard we had to do the Simms deal to pay offthe directors that left. Is that true?

In over 12 months all this waste of space has been able to do is sell Gordon for 40m, being in Young for free, and have Danjuma sign a loan contract after initially humiliating Thelwell's ability to close out a deal.
