You'd want to be on some hard narcotics if you're coming after Thelwell so soon. The man literally walked into potentially one of the worst and most unstable clubs in the world financially and has genuinely done very well with what he's got. I don't think he's made a bad signing yet at all, in fact the most of them have been incredibly good compared to what they were replacing and again for the price. His "worst" signings are Maupay and McNeil, both cheap backup players who had Premier League experience. It's not Thelwell's fault that Calvert Lewin is made of cheese and Gray and Gordon aren't good enough when Maupay and McNeil have to come in and expect to be better.

Clearly he and Lampard are building something, it isn't either of their fault that a team full of supposed internationals on big money get beat 4-1 by a second string Bournemouth side. He's gotten rid of a lot of deadwood in the past summer despite them being absolute crocks, in the coming summer we'll be guaranteed to be rid of Rondon, Doucoure, Davies, Mina as well as probably Begovic, Townsend and Coleman. That's another probably near £500k a week saved on wages and minimal impact on the quality of the squad.

Make it into next summer with Thelwell and Lampard then we can see and judge them properly in my opinion. There's no point constantly chopping and changing the DoF or Manager because if we do we always end up in this exact siutaiton where we've got a squad full of loads of different people's players that are all wasting our money.

It’s not his fault that he spent £35 million on two crap attacking players as they were only meant to be back up (to proven mediocrity) is quite the take.

Na there's a lot of truth in it to be fair. He walked into an utter mess and in his first summer instantly improved the defense. Needs more time for sure.
He needs time absolutely, and he’s made us more solid. But he’s not beyond criticism given we are very much in a relegation battle and have a squad with no goals in it.

Nobody should ever be beyond criticism. What I find peculiar in this thread however is that there seems to be a growing collective of people who seem to think that his future should already be under discussion, despite the fact he has had only 1 transfer window in which he pretty much only had the money generated from outgoings to do anything with.

I hope some of these people held Marcel Brands to the same standard, a chancer who was somehow in charge of 7 transfer windows - although I already know from memory that is not the case at all.

Thelwell and Lampard gambled in the summer. They believed our most urgent areas of crisis were the defence and midfield (can't really say they were wrong there) and we have improved in those areas compared to last season. They gave too much responsibility to Anthony Gordon and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who are both miserably repaying that faith for different reasons. The players Thelwell signed to provide strength in depth in attacking areas have been underwhelming so far but it is now up to the manager to try and get more out of them, I don't think either are unsalvageable.

They appear at the present time to have got it wrong. They have January to hopefully rectify it, and hopefully they do. But surely any talk about Thelwell's future is premature, do people really want us to turn our entire football structure on its head once again?

It get why some are asking questions on his future, but we’re not frigging Watford just yet ffs. Let’s give the fella a chance.

That said, He and the scouting team have got a massive few weeks ahead of them during the WC for the winter window - you would hope that they have already got targets lined up and have been working on the deals, but as this is Everton, I won’t hold my breath.

It's because we have taken a fairly large risk of going with a rookie manager and rookie DoF at the same time so of course questions are going to be asked.

Mate, in the summer (before we signed Maupay) you said:

"if you genuinely look at this squad fully fit it is really only light a backup forward and that's about it"

I wouldn't be talking about other people being on hard narcotics if I was you.

Well those questions should be asked of the board, not the individuals themselves.

There must come a point in time where we surely have to hold our nerve when the going gets tough. Thelwell should get at least January to patch up the positions he's left us under-equipped in.

The board/chairman and owner should have been ridden out of this club years ago imo, they are at the root of most of our troubles and have been for a long time, the likes of Kenwright simply fail to understand that it's NOT a game/sport anymore it's business these days and you have to operate like one to achieve success. The traditional way of running a club is long gone. Then you get idiots like Moshiri who is just a "front" for someone else and when that falls apart he runs off crying in his corner wanting nothing more to do with it anymore.
I'm not one for chopping and changing with managers but I really don't see where this is going at the moment. After 9 months and numerous signings (of the manager/DoF choice) I would at the very least expect us to have a basic shape and way of playing. We have gone into the season clearly with a view that hoofing the ball up to Dom to hold up for others running behind. I'm sorry but that is like schoolboy tactics and it's extremely easy to play against and very predictable. I'm all for seeing what happens in January but it HAS to work there can't be any mistakes and any player coming in HAS to hit the ground running.

Walking into a mess is the only thing he got right. Almost everything else is comically wrong. £35m for Maupay and McNeil is cheap apparently. lol.
Well it is if you compare it to Wood (£30m) & Pepe (£72m). All 4 players are rubbish though, so I don't know what my point is...
