He needs to find a striker, attacking midfielder / creative midfielder, and a winger rapid like… otherwise he’ll just turn into the fat teletubbys play thing! Which is never going to end well….

With DCL catching yet another injury, torn hair follicle I gather…. We need more players, as the balloons who played last night have shown pretty much more or less that none of them should play for us again.

Such a big job turning this sinking titanic around, fact!

Doing a solid job at the moment.

A proper manager at the helm and we would be around 10th-12th easily.

I highly doubt he would have signed McNeil and Maupay if he wasn't restricted by FFP.
Solid job - how've you figured that?? Because he managed to secure JT on a free from Burnley, or got scouser Connor Coady on loan after Mina & Godfrey got crocked on game 1?... For me he hasn't really done much of note (although I appreciate DOFs work might need to be judged over a longer period of time).

Never understood the love-in for a bloke 99% of the fans wouldn't recognise if they walked by him on the street, let alone think it was a "big miss" if he'd have stayed at New York Rovers or Preston Athletic or wherever he came from.

Agree McNeil and Maupay were brought in because they were deals we could do based on our finances, but you might as well say "if we had £100m to spend we'd have signed X Y Z instead". As for a 'proper manager' I'm not sure what difference the suit (or M&S catalgoue) in the dugout makes if Davies puts the ball 3648 feet over the bar from 17 yards, or Gordon can't head it in from 2 yards, or DCL finds the goalkeeper on 1-on-1, or Iwobi misses the whole goal from 5 feet, or Gray boots it out the Spurs stadium from 2 yards etc etc etc.

Tarks, Coady, Onana & Gana for an approximate combined £35-40 millions is great business lets be real here mate.

Lampard failed to get Derby promoted, bottled a cup final at Chelsea and took that seasons CL winners to midtable and is currently averaging 1 ppg at us.

Sadly he's looking to be the emperors new clothes.

Not saying JT and CC were not very good signings - they obviously are. My point is that I think pretty much anyone could have gotten those signings across the line. Gana is a 33y/o former player who was done at PSG and didn't exactly have Barca battling for him, and as much as I am a huge fan of Onana and think -in time- he'll be a mega player, I'd be willing to bet it was more about learning from one of the Prem's best ever midfielders every day than some potato in a suit he's never heard of.

We had a limited budget this summer, and we made it stretch - I don't dispute that, I'm just not anywhere near the KT altar of worship that so many seem to be. Are we honestly saying no one other than the former Madrid/Bayern - sorry, Preston/Wolves/NewYork man couldn't have done the deals we did this summer? There are bigger and better clubs than us across the globe, most of them never bat an eye at him let alone heard of him. I just don't get the up-front unwaivering worship for him is all, when we're not really talking groundbreaking stuff.

How have we gone from praising him for signing Coady and Tarkowski for 25p to this?

But much imo.
Not me; he failed, we desperately needed attacking reinforcements and it’s showing

He did marvellously well getting a free transfer in, he gets props for Onana. But we can’t score or create, we couldn’t last year and he allowed us to enter the season drastically short of goals.

Did you expect every single one of the squad’s shortcomings to be fixed in one skint transfer window?

Tarkowski and Coady are saving him from being slaughtered for blowing our tiny amount of money on Maupay, McNeill, and Garner.
They're not looking amazing are they? But they're probably what we could get with limited funds, wages available and how we needed to structure deals. Or who would come.

Feels a bit rock and hard place - sign no one, everyone's going nuts. Sign what looks like meh, well, same result.

I know I'll probably get a list of alternatives we could of signed now (not necessarilyfrom you Jake), but you have to ask how realistic they were? If they were, it's poor scouting.

That era of largesse paying over the odds on so many players hangs over us like a shadow still.

….it already appears that Maupay is a very poor acquisition & it’s reasonable to question if the McNeil monies could’ve been better spent (I actually don’t mind McNeil but there could’ve been better options).

For me, it was negligent going so far into the season without an effective striker option with DCL injured. Let’s not forget, Lampard was employing Gordon as a central striker rather than use Rondon. When we finally brought a striker in, he’s clearly not the type we needed.

in our position we can’t afford to get things as badly wrong as we have with our attack.

Maupay seemed like a desperation signing to me. I reckon the thought process behind the signing was "he's scored a few in the league, let's get him in". No thought was given to how he would fit in with the squad as constructed or how he suits the manager's tactics.

….I think they have also gambled on DCL getting fit & remaining fit. That was a huge risk to take given how repetitive big thigh muscle injuries are.

I’m sure we’ll address that situation in January but that signing is likely to define our season.

No, I expected a striking option, someone that can win you a game. This whole argument of “did you expect all our issues to be resolved” is fruitless. Tarkowski and Coady cost £4.5m; one was a free and one was a loan. It ain’t taking all summer to negotiate for that,

I mean, maybe I watched a different team to you last year, one that couldn’t score or create chances in the final third? Oh yeah, we also so Richarlison; the only person who could score or create.

And unfortunately, clean sheets don’t win you games, goals do, and we have none.
So when we watch our team struggle to break teams down, slow every attack down and go backwards, don’t dominate or cause opposition centre backs any trouble and allow them to play 10 yards further forward, it’s all because we have nothing up top

Attacking options was an absolute MUST in the summer, and we have signed Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay.

And there’s only one person who will pay the price for that negligence
