2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

I think that Thelwell has been the least worst of our DoFs when it comes to player recruitment, hardly a ringing endorsement. I find it impossible to judge the remainder of his role.

I'm convinced that there are people out there that could do a far better job.

However if you bring in someone like Moyes with a proven track record of recruiting good quality players at modest fees then you are stupid not to allow him to be heavily involved and probably lead on player recruitment.

In fact it's interesting that Wham have just sacked their DoF and their statement specifically referred to allowing Potter to bring in his own head of recruitment.

I think that Thelwell's time is up. I'm sure that we will get a far more experienced and capable DoF. The direction that TFG go in terms of player recruitment will however be illuminating. If the new DoF has overall say in player recruitment then I'm not convinced that Moyes will be here for the long term.

Like fuming at a homeless guy because he's looking for food in the bins.
I’ve used this metaphor, especially when it comes to his “failures” in the loan market- the loan market pretty much is other clubs’ bins. The blame for those failings lies squarely with those way above his pay grade who’ve left us needing to live off loans to fill a team. You’re never going to get anywhere living like that.

The way I see it, he's had to make a profit in every window, sell before buying.

The buying has often been from a shortlist of being available for £0 upfront.

Other than Leicester, we've spent (not even net, just actual spend) the lowest in the league since he arrived. Leeds have been in the championship 2 years and have spent more in the last 3 years than us.

People bang on about Beto, but forget we only had Calvert-Lewin and started a season without scoring a goal in 3 games and the window was 2 days from closing and we had literally, £0 upfront.

Gyokeres, Kudus, Minteh, Elanga, Gnonto - all we've wanted but had £0 to spend upfront or had to have other players leave as part of a deal.

I've no idea whether Thelwell is any good. Can only judge him on what he's done here, and there's a massive asterisk against that given he joined a club that was a circus.

The question should be if Thelwell is capable of making shrewd deals, most of our purchases have been in the 15-20 mil mark and have had players typically in the age group of 19-23. Granted he is on a tight budget, maybe he is better off at a club like Wolves or Forest.

Complicated problems lead to people looking for an easy scapegoat.

I agree with you completely , the hard work done by KT in balancing books and reducing wages is not appreciated or understood by most fans who are interested in one thing only... new signings.

Of course we don't know the the relationship between KT and TFG , nor do we know the relationship between DM and KT.

Is David Moyes happy to work with a DOF or did he insist on taking responsibility for transfers , wages, sales, academy when agreeing to join.
Time will tell us.

We are not going to be paying much more than 20m for players anytime soon.

Both have spent a lot more than us - this is spend (not net spend, we'd be the least on that) the last 3 years;
