2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Broja is a big mistake for me, as he seems to have ignored a lot of what he was doing previously. Basically buying people with a good injury record who are rugged, which has worked well.

We bought a very injury prone player, who was injured at the time of signing him. You can say it's unlucky, but you are massively gambling when you do that, and it's wasted a precious domestic loan spot.

As you say, I'm not really sure Beto is not a fail.at this point too. Hopefully he can change that perception, but we need to see more than 1 really good game IMO.
Yeah this does seem anomalous - he would have to have been a proper talent to justify the risk, and is Broja really all that even when he is fit? His record isn’t exceptional.

Broja has always been a player of potential over substance.

He had a decent loan spell at Saints (3 years ago?) outside of that he's been either on the fringe of the Chelsea squad, disappointing in loan spells or injured, often a combination of any of those two factors.

It's now at the point that the talented young 20yo prospect is gonna be 24yo a few weeks into next season. At a certain point you have to look past the obvious potential with the talent he appears to have the possibility of and look at the reality.

To take any chance on him now, and for it to be worth it the following factors all have to occur.

He has to live up to his potential at the age of 24 having not improved over the 20yo version.
He has to stay fit, which in four years he's not managed ever to do.
He has to not only stay fit, improve on what he does decent already, but also add goals to his game - which as a striker is kind of his job.

I'd have misgivings about him on a free at this point, never mind throwing actual money to buy him - plus Chelsea will still do show think they can get a good fee for him.

Broja won't ever make it as a starter in this league as simply putting it, he can't stay fit and when he is fit he's not good enough to outweigh the long periods out.

This is what he’s been up against since the day he walked in to the club. And yet he’s massively reduced the wage bill, and fashioned a side through loans, and found players that their clubs would accept Klarna that has been competitive enough to remain in the league. Some on here are absolutely clueless bells who quite clearly can’t see past the fact he’s a “Kopite”. Most of you are grown adults as well ffs 🙄

Bookmark this mate - if Broja gets himself fit, gets a run in the team and does well enough before the end of this season, we will almost certainly sign him. Thelwell and Moyes have both liked him for so long that it feels like an inevitability.

The only thing that stops this happening is his fitness. If he can't get fit, it's hard to see us parting with the money.

Nah mate, Moyes with money behind him will be shopping at a level above Broja. Moyes also isn't stupid, he can like a player but spot when the players done.

Bookmark this btw, Broja won't play more than a hundred minutes more for Everton.

Perhaps I should have put a /sarc on the end of my post earlier idk 🤷‍♂️

Spurs and United net spend of well over a combined billion pounds in 5 years

Even if Broja puts together a run of 7 or 8 games before the end of the season, I still think it would be a huge risk to spend 25 or 30m on him. I would want to see a far more prolonged period of performing and staying fit, before spending that kind of money

On paper we should be in the championship.

If the new boys can get a more established or bigger name, sound. But would be fine with Kev being able to do his job properly rather than being an accountant

I agree wholeheartedly mate. I'm not advocating signing him, I'm just saying that I can see it coming if he gets fit and puts a run of games together this season.

We might be clever enough to go back to Chelsea and renegotiate the fee, given his injury record, but I don't see any world (particularly if Thelwell stays at the club) where Moyes and Thelwell's long term interest in the player don't influence this if the circumstances align.

Are we now net-spend fc?

What do we got for winning the net-spend league?

Shows the absolute farce of PSR up for what it really is, and also the very difficult circumstances the DoF and recent managers have been working under.

However, big Kev’s still a kopite and Dyche/Tapastits/lampard are really, really crap football managers - all these things can be true. 😉

They’ll have stopped reading well before that bit!

PSR exacerbates your mistakes (unless you're Chelsea and you just make stuff up!). Once you've signed players on big wages who you can't get rid of it really weighs you down. Hopefully we've learnt from this and buy young players with potential on lower wages, or older players with a good work ethic who don't earn as much as they used to. That was how we built our best ever team.

That was posted in another thread too recently. IMO shows how brilliantly we've done to stay in the league the last few years
