Have to say I didn’t learn anything new about Dowell tonight, he showed all the touches and great flicks we’ve come to expect of him .... and some of the frustrations too. Watching him play like he did , I always think he’s on the cusp of being an outstanding player , but can he add that consistency and just a wee bit extra. His awareness of where people are on the pitch is fantastic and his contribution to the England u21 has increased since this time last year at U20s level, you could see the same in his early season form at Forest. I would love to see him start in a central role for England to see how he can dictate the play at this level.
...contract runs out at the end of next season, the lad is in a good position to sit tight and do whatever is best for himself. Surprising his contract wasn’t extended at the start of this season given the likely demand for his services.

A big talent but notbyetbguven anything like the senior game time of Davies Holgate Lookman Kenny. He must feel the odd one out of a lot of that squad who have had premier league time. We need to decide if he is worth integrating into the first team or not. We’re crying out for creativity in midfield, either give the Ormskirk Ozil a go or let him get first team football somewhere else.

This club is dead if it's even considering not bringing Dowell back in. He's a class player, and if we have decision makers who cant see that then we have confirmation that we've completely lost our way.

...if he’s not sold I think it’s very likely he’ll be offered a new deal. The question will be whether he accepts it or prefers to run his current contract down.
Yeh, whether the club plan to keep him or not they'll get him signed up if they can to protect their asset. The Barkley events will change how we handle contracts/sales forever I feel.
...except that if a player wants to run down his contract there’s very little a club can do.

..I wouldn’t, Matey. I’m not one for being romantic about wanting to play for Everton, it’s a career for these lads and players are perfectly entitled to see their contracts out.

Think you're over reacting a bit Dave. The context of the column is an interview with a local paper and Dowell is showing great maturity in keeping his options with Forest open. There's nothing there to suggest that the club aren't intending to bring him into the squad next season. However I would expect his opportunities to be limited if Allardyce is still in charge of the team.
The worrying aspect for me is that the lad himself appears to have no idea what plans the club have for him. It's as if nobody's keeping a check on him. Now that is a disgrace if so.
