Seems to me the only way some people will believe Koeman will play youngsters is if he builds a superlative team out of players in their prime, destined it win trophies galore, then drops them all to play a bunch of pre pubescent kids from the u 11s.

His first team opportunities are going to be very limited this season, I'd be happy to see him do a year in the Championship, maybe with Williams at Barnsley

Or how about playing someone like Kenny instead of a jarg Martina? Or playing Dowell on the right of a front 3 (where he plays most of the time), instead of DCL (who literally never plays there and for the life of of me I can't figure out what RK was thinking)?

It's not like people are saying put out the U23 team. But if the best players from that team, and the 2 of the best players from the England U20 World Cup winners can't get in the squad in two positions that we're not exactly flush at, does beg some questions, don't you think?

True but it's easy when you don't have options. Let's see if he dies the same this year
But he has done it when he's had options. Davies played ahead of more senior players last year, DCL has kept senior players out of the side, Pennington was given a chance when we didn't need to play him. I've criticised Koeman for some things, but I just don't see how his youth policy can be questioned.

Why play him so much in the games then suddenly totally drop him from the squad when he delivered more than most?

It happens every summer, always a 1 or 2 players that get loads of game time in friendlies, then nothing in proper matches.

I have no doubt Kenny will get his chance when the manager judges it to be the right time. We always tend to push the case for young players to be introduced early and forget the step up to the first team is a big one. Calvert -Lewin is being allowed to learn his trade without being the main striker and having that pressure.
In recent years (relatively) I remember berating Moyes for not playing Coleman more often. He introduced him to the team in more of a winger role to get him used to the game, he looked brilliant. Yet when he was finally used at full back he was still prone to mistakes and misjudgements. It takes time. We do not know how well a player is doing in training, or what the players character is, how will he respond if he has a poor game.?
These are the things we cannot know therefore without all the information our judgement is always flawed. We have to trust the manager and his coaching team. We can question but we cannot presume to know more than them.

Fully agree mate. There's a lot of football to be played this season assuming we get through to the EL group stage. If we do, I'd keep Dowell with the squad as I think EL football will suit him. See how he does and review his situation in January. As for Kenny, he should be first choice RB until Seamus returns from injury. He's earned the right IMO. Holgate and Coco can be back up.

No player has earned the right to play now based on what they have done before, otherwise Rooney would be in the team until he is 40.

Dowell and Kenny are with the first team squad and may drop down at times to play under 23. They have earned the right to be considered, but not to be picked as with every other player, they have to prove now that they are worth picking.

If they are good enough they will be picked, it isn't RK alone they have to impress, it is the entire coaching staff.
