Oh, Im sure that as hes only been benched for 6-7 games hes not bothered much by it right now. But if that were to hold out for another 10-15 games I just think his opinion would change in a hurry. I do suspect that Stones ego was big enough where he DID think hes nail down the starting spot right away.

Let’s see how he does in the next 2 games. He’s been ok this season, but let’s not get carried away. The guy is past his best and need to be replaced in the summer.
I said this after the Stoke game, but in the opening 20minutes he passes the ball straight to stoke players about 3 times under no pressure. And also played another couple of hospital balls. And then went totally into his shell and basically refused to even attempt a forward pass. Every pass was to Coleman, Keane or Pickford. He’s not the only one, all our centre backs are a nervous wreck. I’d say holgate the best from a technical point of view, but he’s not brilliant.

To move forward as a team, we need centre backs and midfielders that are comfortable in possession, Jones & smalling wouldn’t help this, as they also panic with the ball.

We desperately need at least one centre back who can drive forward with the ball and can ping a 30/40 yard forward pass, that takes out the opponents midfield

..which would still make him our best centre back this season.

He really hasn't been that bad to be honest. Not saying he has been great or anything either and its a sorry state of affairs that he has been our best centre back. He has not played that much either has he?
