2017/18 Kieran Dowell

This is the problem. We've got a lot of talented kids that aren't ready to step in at the highest level, but do you keep loaning them out to championship sides?

Dowell has a fantastic left foot, but where does he play? He's not a good athlete, he's not going to play outside, but he can't tackle well enough to play as a DM. He's more if an attacking mid, but he's not playing ahead of Sigurdsson or Rooney yet. I'd keep him around and ease him into the team I guess.

Right midfield...the same position where he plays for England youth.

He played quite a lot at first, worrying that he is routinely dropped for Williams though. Not sure who that reflects on, Holgate or Allardyce.

And hasnt played since the beginning of January whilst Williams Jagielka and Keane have been showering themselves in glory.

He's had 2 recent sub games...needs to be in the side.

If the Dutch player of the year, who has won three titles and appeared over twenty times in the champions league can't get in our side, what makes everyone think dowell is the answer to our problems?

How does comparing someone who plays in a totally different position and who was so obviously and blatantly not suited to playing in England with one of the top England u21 talents...make one iota of sense?

Williams is finished, but so is jags and anyone who says different is deluded.
Do you really think Jags at the back week in week out next season, alongside a Keane or Mori is good enough for us to challenge the top 6?

Jagielka would be ok as 4th choice next season..3rd choice Keane...Holgate+a new signing as starters.

Holgate over the season has been the best.

By a mile.

So lets drop Walcott for him? Also as an aside, he played Centre attacking mid in his last England game and was brilliant and has also played there most of the season for forrest

Pep has rotated his CBs and his Strikers pretty much all season, its what a sensible manager that at 1 point was pushing for 4 Trophies does.

If your suggesting Stones made a mistake to leave a team going nowhere to join a team that has already won the League Cup, is about to win the League and is in the QFs of the CL, then I dont really know what to say to be honest.

No I dont think it's a mistake, just maybe 1 season too early. But then on the other hand, he's winning trophies and in the England Squad, so I suppose he's on track for his own career

Who mentioned dropping Walcott? You need two players for every position.

No he never. He played RM vs Romania.

;)

In case anyone didn't know...Played attacking centre midfield for forest until Karanka took over...now plays on the left.

He always plays on the right for England youth unless shifted into the centre for a few mins (like at the end of the Romania u21 game last week)

If only we had a machine like in the Fly but combine Davies' workrate with Dowell's skill. I'd get Dowell on DCL's workout regime. Get him lean, lithe, with that skinny smack head strength. He'd also fit in more at home in Ormy too.

Trust me! DCL is in unreal shape atm

What we have with Dowell, Davies, Kenny, Calvert Lewin, Holgate, and Connolly, together with Pickford, who is in a similar situation and knew a couple of them already from u21s, should be fostered and added too. They have have something we have missed for a while now, and that's team work, fight, and a genuine bond.

I'm not saying they are all the finished article, or that all 7 should be in the 1st team from game 1 next year, but they should all be in and around the match day squad, and combined with the experience of Rooney, Walcott, Coleman, Tosun, and Sigurdsson, and maybe a fresh start for Sandro, Vlasic, Keane, Mori, Onyekuru and Klaassen, it starts to have the makings of a squad that a new manager can hopefully cultivate.

I would say we then need to add 4 players to that...
1. An established, vocal centre half who leads by example.
2. A new 1st choice left back.
3. A proper centre midfielder.
4. A new back up Keeper (because I still think they messed up not tying Joel down).

But those 4 positions are about all I'd advise in signing in 1 summer or we'll end up like we did this year again, no balance, no stability, too much change, not enough consistency.

Baines, Jagielka, Williams, Schneiderlin, Mirallas, Bolasie, Niasse (as much as I've enjoyed his resurgence and his exemplary attitude, something I can hardly level at any of the others), Stekelenberg and Martina should all be surplus, and be kept on the fringe of the squad or moved on if the money is right. I could take or leave Gueye. Personally, I'm not overstruck on him, and if someone offered us stupid money, I'd bite their hands off. I think he's massively overrated.

But back to original point. Those younger players who have already bonded the way they have, they should be part of the new nucleus of the squad. Like I said, there's no need to rush them all in at once, but ease them in gently and let the team spirit build from within, something we have sorely missed for a long time.

And from everything i see and read in interviews and on social media, Dowell seems central to that, so we should do everything we can to keep him, and that's not even taking into account the clear ability he has. If he wasn't already with us, we'd be desperate for us to sign him.
