Again my stance isn't that the loan isn't going to be good for him (mostly for confidence, I'm not convinced there's anything for him to "learn" there that he couldn't training with our first team and gradually working his way into the first team with us). With four competitions there would have been time available. Time will tell whether Sigurdson will be a difference maker. He's here so I hope he is. I'm behind him to help kick us on. But he just got here this week. Part of my concern over that signing is exactly the point that he could block Dowell's progress with us. Now if Sigurdson is the difference between top four and not, then hell yeah it's a great move. But if we finish 7th again, and Dowell still has no place in the team next year no matter how ready he is, then I'm annoyed.

It's perfectly ok to disagree with that view. But that's mine.

No mate I respect your point of view and you raise some good points.

I think he's been around Koeman and the 1st team for a year now so he should know how he works. I agree we have a lot of games but he may play in 50% of them if he's lucky. He will take part in 100% of the games he's available for at Forrest. The league itself should help with his weaknesses. He's have to grow and get better at that side of his game. He won't get the protection of prem refs. And I suppose in response to your views one sigurdson keeping him out the team then that's just the challenge of wanting to progress, he needs to raise his game to the level we now demand. I think he'll come back much better equipped to deal with that challenge after a year of really competitive football in the championship.

I think he's at an age where he has time to learn with better professionals but he needs to be playing week in week out to really progress and even with all our games this year the back room staff at the club feel he isn't just ready yet so letting him go for a year is what's best for him

He wouldnt have played a second for the first team so far, not a second, instead hes played 3 games, games which mean something.

Not sure what you think we do in training that Forest dont? Why would training be different at Everton? Of course he would train with the first team, then he would be playing for the U23s, while the first team all bail him, at Forest hes part of something, he trains with his TEAM MATES, he plays in matches that mean something, he grows as a player, instead you want to stunt his progress, just so he could play 5minutes against somebody in the League Cup.

He wouldnt have played a second for the first team so far, not a second - Well that's a problem as far as I'm concerned. You are free to disagree.

Not sure what you think we do in training that Forest dont? Why would training be different at Everton? - Well it's with and against Premier League players for starters.

instead you want to stunt his progress, just so he could play 5minutes against somebody in the League Cup - pump the brakes. If I thought it was stunting his progress of course I wouldn't be for it. And 5 minutes in the League Cup? I'm confused. He's good enough to start every week in the Championship but only good enough for 5 minutes with us against the same or lesser competition in the Cup, or a weakened Prem side? This is a horrible argument.

Anyway, as you said, neither of us will agree on the others POV, we can both agree that he looks a very talented boy and I look forward to watching him "grow".

Which creates another issue of where do we fit him in, but thats for next summer, I notice hes playing very deep for Forest based on these clips, very interesting.

As other far smarter than I am have pointed out, he really should be playing centrally in the middle of the action. I think that solves the "problem" of him drifting in and out of games when he's played wide right, he can get marginalized. Now, I totally understand the fear of handing the keys to the car to a 20 year old to pull the strings in the middle of the park in a no 10 role, but ultimately that's what he is. His brain, his ability to connect play, while also being able to make pin point forward passes or score from outside the box is something we haven't really had since Arteta maybe? I think he could be that good at some point, that's how highly I rate him, and not surprisingly Mikel was Dowell's idol and who he patterns his game on. Although he should play further forward that Arteta did.

That should make you happy :)

Well lets see what the next 40+ games brings us!

Bloke in my local is a big Forest fan (I live in the Midlands now) and he was waxing lyrical last night, he said his first half performance was up there with any of the top midfielders he's watched at Forest over the years. He knows his stuff and thinks Dowell will be an England player, we have a gem on our hands.

Ironically as good as he appears to be doing, as well as his strengths he is still exhibiting his weaknesses. Until he can overcome his marked tendency to drift out of games and lose concentration he will never be good enough. You cannot afford central players to go missing in our league, you will be punished.
