Was there a reason you retired @tommye ?

He was offered a contract at his boyhood club and he turned it down?
Read what I said again. I'm talking about people saying he's greedy or has done something underhand, turning down a contract is not necessarily either of those things.

I've got mates who would turn down a free ticket for their boyhood club nevermind a contract that would tie them to a job they might not be enjoying and may mean they lose out on huge sums of money.

Could see him at United. Mourinho needs a third midfielder with Pogba and Herrera, Lukaku likes him etc. Then again he has nowhere near the mental fortitude to thrive under Mourinho

I genuinely think Spurs are prepared to forego a pre-season with him to get him on the cheap once it's one week left in the transfer window and clear that nobody else is in for him. We'll have no choice but to accept their 15million offer.

..I've always thought this would go to the wire for this very reason but I suspect and hope Spurs will not be alone in wanting him. At the right price I reckon Arsenal and Man Utd will be interested to bolster their squads with a homegrown international. If that is the case, Everton will release him to the highest bidder. I reckon it'll be £35m.

As I've said in other threads over the months, every other player leaving I understood.

Gosling, Lescott, Rooney, Arteta etc.

With Barkley, I just think it's bonkers.

He genuinely wants Champions League football, and prompted further by not having his backside kissed by Koeman.

Still, over the years we've all constantly bemoaned a bottling mentality. Ross Barkley epitomised that.

For all the raw ability, and despite the romantic "local academy lad" - Barkley isn't good enough to be an integral part in Everton's team to reach the level above us.

Shift him out, he hasn't got the will, or the fight to improve his game and compete for his place which he has had guaranteed for years. Bring Sigurdsson in, twice the player.

While I agree with you that Sigurdsson is a better player, I think it takes a lot of bottle to leave somewhere you have been looked after since you were a kid, to go to somewhere totally different, away from your home and all your friends and family to start anew. Give the guy a break!

There is no evidence Barkley is an international mate he deleted all the pictures in a strop.

He need sunshine blown up in butt, and RK is not that kind of manager.
Good player, but we'll be more than fine without him.

Such a shame. I am not going to send him off with any ill will at all; he took a load of stick on and off the pitch, the rumours of pressure from "gangsters" that seems to be associated with a lot of high profile local lads who do well is of course doing the rounds I know nothing of them nor do I want to believe that is true.
He's a very good football player who I believe was broken in spirit by Hodgson and never recovered, couple that with RK being the antithesis of Bobby I can see how he struggled psychologically. But things change in football just like any workplace and if you outgrow it or get outgrown you move on for your own good.
Ross' new "challenge" is assumed to mean he's doing a Lukaku because he's mentioned champions league I don't believe it I think it's personal over professional. Anyway I hope he does well but does so in Spain or Outer Mongolia
