Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

His behaviour in and out of the football pitch clearly show somebody with a level of maturity which is questionable. He thinks he is the best thing to come out of the academy...that is too good for Everton...nothing wise about him. But he will be found out eventually and will regret his decision for the rest of his life...

I was more saying that whatever he decides to do is his own choice; not a result of something that Lukaku did. He'll obviously have weighed the pro's and the contras of the entire situation and is doing what he perceives is the best for him (on his age you should be able to do that). IMO he made a strange conclusion, unless there are some factors there that most of us don't know about.

Well, one did.

And while I value their posts, I trust Joyce and Hunter more, and I'm sure both have mentioned that it has been months in negotiations.

Walsh did say in April Ross had been in talks and he "would be" offered a deal, before Koeman said in early May "he has been offered a deal"

I think negotiations went on for a while and when we finally did offer it, Ross maybe had made his mind up.

But the rumblings he wanted out have also been going on since Jan/Feb time as well...
Two friendly regime supporting hacks.

I agree about Chelsea and City. He wouldn't go right in and be a starter. At Spurs he'd be in the same position as Janssen was: take your chance and prove yourself in order to grab a starting place regularly. Barkley can do that there...certainly better equipped to do it than Janssen. Arsenal looks a much better bet for him though starting place wise.

But he's a massive talent. Anyone who did write him off to be a big star in the PL at an elite club would do so at their peril.
You're not wrong there Dave and i don't think anyone is questioning his god given ability, we've seen what he can do when everything falls into place but it just doesn't happen enough to be considered an elite player BUT with top level players around him who know what he'll become. I image his agent has said pretty much the same thing to him which is why we are where we are.

Nope. Not at all.

In fact, Joyce wrote an article back in June criticising the club for its handling of the Barkley situation.

So you're wrong.

They do, however, both get good information in regards to Everton.

..bizarrely, it might actually be good news for Everton if there's demand from more than one club in the last week of the window. I think Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd are circling. It's just a matter of who breaks ranks first. I agree that Everton are over a barrel but they might be able to squeeze a reasonable fee if they sense more than one club are very keen.
I could be wrong, but I honestly think the United and Arsenal links are spin encouraging an auction.

I'd be surprised if his agent hasn't already discussed terms on the quiet with Levy. Pochettino will want to get a player he's waited and waited for, apparently.

The only way a top 4 club will take Ross is if they get him on the cheap. As of now doesn't seem like there is much demand, no top 4 club banging down Everton's door to snatch him up.
All smoke and mirrors.

Barkley would be wanted by top clubs even if he had two years on his contract.

He's a class player. It's no use comforting ourselves that he's a dud and wont be missed.

I really doubt the club were prepared to pay alledged wages of 100k to not start games. I know no player is guaranteed a starting place, but you'd like to think the players we have bought this summer would have eased the pressure on Ross being our only creative outlet and allowed him to flourish within the team. Sadly that isn't going to be the case anymore.

isn't that about the going rate these days?

I honestly look at the purchase of Klaassen and the potential one of Gylfi as a sign that Everton knew he was going a while back or they thought he was surplus to requirements.

None of us actually know what has happened, we are all just guessing, but if it came out that they had not offered him a contract there would have been uproar with him being a local lad and all, plus if they offer him a reasonably lucrative contract and he commits, then we will get better money for him further down the line.

Anyway, he's gone now, the club moves on and our so called "boy-wonder" who never actually turned out to be anything of the sort can go and be somebody else's delicate little flower.

We'll lose our best two this window and I must say I'll be intrigued how they do at their respective clubs. My hunch is they'll be setting the PL on fire.

...they keep their noses clean and get fed info. That's the way it works. They know the drill...being ex Echo hacks.

As I said, Joyce was rather critical of the club and Koeman's handling of the Ross situation.

He's a good writer, and a genuine bloke by all accounts - even for a red.

Dead right.

Hilarious seeing people try to get double digs in by saying that he's greedy for turning down an enormous contract and useless and no longer good enough for us, seemingly oblivious to the fact they're completely contradicting themselves.
