Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

John Collins, who wasn't a bad player, sums it up quite well.....

"Some managers, you look at him and you say he’s got talent, can I put that desire and that work ethic into him and turn him into a top player, but it’s difficult to give players that desire. When I watch him sometimes he doesn’t really want the ball all the time.

He’s talented, he’s got skill, he can beat a man and he can shoot but end product – 21 goals in 150 matches – I don’t think it’s a great figure.

Sometimes he doesn’t run, work and sweat enough for the team when you watch him.”

And that's nonsense, isn't it? Complete, total nonsense.

You can't 100% blame the player, for the same reasons you can't 100% blame the club.

Ultimately, Barkley has either not been sold on the project at his own boyhood club, fell out with Koeman or he's incredibly thick/greedy/whatever.

It's probably a combination of everything, but it is outrageous that we let this situation develop by only offering him new terms this year. This should have been sorted 12 months ago.

Aye, in hindsight, it seems unfortunate, to say the least. But we have no idea if any discussions took place 12 months ago. Maybe Koeman wanted to assess him, maybe Ross gave assurances he would sign a new one, maybe Koeman wasnt convinced from day one.

Who knows. Aint blaming anyone. Its modern football. But that being said, I still need to be convinced that this is not "off field" issues led.

We actually do - Koeman confirmed in December that there was no rush to offer Barkley terms and that there had been no discussions. Can't be bothered finding the article again but I quoted in amongst the million or so posts in the Barkley thread.

We wont know the details of the contract, ever.

We do know he's an Evertonian and we do know this manager has chosen to make him an issue above all other players. After one season of that RB - having been at the club since a child - has decided to leave.

I dont think it's down to cash at all. It's down to an environment to play in.

Then again, we'll never know, because Barkley has kept his own counsel and not played it all out in public...unlike other parties.

Hence "Reportedly".

And no, we wont ever know. But unlike you, I wont pin the blame or otherwise on the club, or on RK, or on Ross.

Because, as you say, we wont ever know.

Then you have obviously seen something the rest of the footballing world hasn't if you think he will be automatically fantastic.

I go off recent form too, half a decent season in the last one, that's essentially it.

I don't think he'll be fantastic; I think he is fantastic. The only question is as to how fantastic he'll actually end up being, but he's a great footballer now.

England managers, two Everton managers and the leading clubs in England linked to his signature is more telling evidence than random fans loathing him for irrational reasons.

Actually, that does ring a bell.

But either way, we are where we are.

We dont know. But a very easy educated guess says that Barkley - at the club for 12 years and then leaves after the first season into a new managerial regime when that manager had publicly targeted him for most of that season - has been ousted.

To be fair that was mid season. He isn't listed in the top ten at the end of the season. Glfyi is listed at number one.

Aye I'm not saying he's the hardest working player in the Premier League, but the suggestion he's a luxury player who does nothing is just ludicrous, as he wouldn't be anywhere near that list if he was.

The amount of myths spouted about Barkley is incredible. Yeah, he doesn't run around like a headless chicken/Gravesen, but his work rate is absolutely fine.

Mate, I like him, I would have been happy for him to stay...I can easily counter that bit though with Peter Reid saying get rid of him, him not even getting a run out in any recent England squads behind players who have obviously overtaken him, so lots of people equally have doubts as there are admirers. As for where he ends up, lets just see, as a move to man city / chelsea etc could easily be for them to keep their english quotas up.

He is a decent premier league midfielder, just because he is going lets not make him out to be the second coming of christ.

I like Ross, I really do! But if he doesnt want to be here then thats fair enough. Could be any number of reasons, agent, manager, teamates, off the field activities could just be bored and wants a change. Theres no point getting bitter or crying about it. We move on and look forward, he will be replaced and theres plenty more great talent in the youth trying to push though.

Thats your own conclusion. Based on your reading of the narrative. (dislike of the manager).

Mine is somewhat different, but like yours, based on my reading of the narrative.

I wish someone would oust me out of my job with a paltry 100k a week offer.

Proper hated our Ross did Ronald
