Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

..I agree about the agent talking with Spurs but the unknown is whether he's talked with others. I look at United and think he'd be a useful addition to the squad. I have doubts he'd force his way into a regular starting place, especially for key games but I can see why Mourinho might want him.
They don't really have anyone like him so it's possible. I'd look forward to seeing him in one of Pogba and Lukaku's rap videos

No chance he'll become Ballack. That's world class and Ballack had a brain between his ears. Sorry but I disagree with that idea Dave.

Two footed, athletic build, can switch play with a range of passing and get up in and around the box to hit powerfully off both wings and get a goal or two.

This lad just needs direction and to be around winners. He'll get that soon.

It's when something like this happens, that the likes of Dave and others are in their element.

They use things like this to try and validate their hatred of Koeman (see @Zatara in the have gone back to being a Moyes team thread), so they big up the player to make him sound like a world beater that the manager has not been able to hold onto.

Apparently now Barkley is potentially a Ballack, despite him being obviously indecisive, despite him being mentally weak and despite him being just a decent midfielder - but hey, lets compare him to a former world class star as hopefully nobody will really remember how decent Ballack was.

Irrespective of him turning down the contract offer, securing deals for Barry and Baines, before addressing the Barkley contract, showed great naivety on the board's part and undoubtedly will cost the club millions.

You don't think the club were in discussions with barkleys representatives for months before the contract was offered?

I highly doubt we'd slap down a new contract without any prior talk

He can't play that role, we've tried him as a deep midfielder and he can't do it. Gundogan and Fernandinho get in there before him anyway.

maybe, i can pep developing him into a good yaya type player, no defensive role, more attacking player. fernandino is 32 and gundogan is always injured, yaya is 34 now, so we are looking at cm's. as i said i can't see him coming to city, but you never know mate.

Obvious the lad wants away,so any ideas how we fight "tooth and nail" to keep this one?

He is a class player, no doubt

'Inconsistent' and 'makes poor decisions' though apparently.

Bizarre the impression certain people have of him when he's clearly top drawer.

What are the chances that this whole thing is a smokescreen in order to make Barkley panic into signing a contract at Everton

this goes for both sides of the argument though.

the Barkley threads have not been a very reasonable and balanced place for a while now, so I cant understand how you are only commenting on those with a different viewpoint to yours. Its very odd Thomas, cant explain it....
