Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

It will just be Whelan putting pressure on us to agree to his terms by getting someone else to do so; it is clear Kone wants to come and Martinez clearly regards it as all but done. We do let things drag on but that is the consequence of needing to eke out every £. It will get done.

1 goal in 40 games at Sevilla, wow that's bad !

2001–2002 Rio Sport 30 (17)
2002–2003 Lierse 32 (11)
2003–2005 Roda 63 (27)
2005–2007 PSV 53 (21)
2007–2012 Sevilla 40 (1)
2010 → Hannover 96 (loan) 8 (2)
2011–2012 → Levante (loan) 34 (15)
2012 Levante 0 (0)
2012– Wigan Athletic 33 (11)

The rest of his record is fairly decent. Still would be an underwhelming signing but if we're gonna judge him by goals we've gotta be fair and judge more of his career.

Not excusing him but the majority of those games were from the bench so the stat sounds worse then it actually is

edit/ think there were only 12 starts and limited time off the bench

To be fair Sevilla had Luis Fabiano and Freddy Kanoute firing at all cylinders at the time and Kone was used as a sub and often playing out wide.

Jelavic has much better stats throughout his career. Only scored 5 fewer (in all comps) than Kone last year and people want to sell him.

43 goals in 95 games for Vienna
36 goals in 55 games for Rangers
19 goals in 59 games for Everton

Jelavic was dreadful last season no disguising that. But the same could be said of Johnson (Who I thought was a cracking signing), Yakubu, Beattie... over the last decade. No striker ever improved, but regressed alarmingly, yet we turned average/raw defenders into world beaters. Even Vaughan who looked a real gem never progressed as he should have done.

Moyes was a defender, he destroyed three 20 goal a season forwards at Everton in Yakubu, Johnson, and Beattie (23 in 2002/03) and done the same last year to Jelavic.

For whatever reason (and i know Jela missed some ****ing shockers last season through no fault of moyes) DM was like the plague for a forward. Where as he could take a centre half and turn them into an England international.

I think we need to give Jela another chance this season with Martinez. If Kone is dog**** (apparantely) and can score 11 at Wigan then id like to see what Jela can do under Martinez also.

Apparently a deal with Everton was all done and dusted for the Ivory Coast international striker, in fact he was expected to have signed on the dotted line at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

But an 11th hour bid from Newcastle has pipped Everton's £5m offer.

Reports in the North East say that the Geordies have been given permission to speak to the player by the Latics after agreeing a fee.

I feel that Kone might offer us something and one of those things would be to help Jelavic score.
As said they both have the same record (one in three) in the Prem, there's a good chance of Jelavic getting back in form while Kone looks like he can't improve his goal scoring ratio but can bring other aspects to our game. I would like him to be the player that moves Fellaini back to where he should be.

I think Moyes played Jelavic wrong last season and that he's still our best bet for a 20 goals a season striker, better than say getting Bony who like most forwards would be nearer the one in three than the coveted one in two.
