2018/19 Kurt Zouma

...when Keane got spun in the box against the Reds and the Forward was about to score, Zouma had the power and will power to cover. Yesterday when Kane got free and beyond Keane, it was Zouma who had the power and will power to recover the situation. Once a forward gets beyond Keane, he’s out of the game.

Keane was static yesterday, Zouma was covering. It’s about having the right strategy and partnership. Zouma provides much needed athleticism, our full backs need to be selective and not gung-ho in going forward and Zouma needs the right partner.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Keane has performed better and looked less vulnerable this season since the introduction of Zouma. With the right tactics and personnel, he’s the type of defender we need.
It’s an uncomfortable truth for many but Keane simply isn’t good enough. Son went past him in the box like he wasn’t there sick to death of seeing the same situations whereby he get caught out as he can’t move his legs quick enough.
No idea if Mina is the answer but Keane definitely isn’t the answer if anybody offers anywhere near close to what we paid we should start again. He will never ever be a regular starter for a top 6 team.

Any Premier League back line needs pace. Keane doesn't have enough. He had a great rep at Burnley because they couldn't play a high line so his lack of pace was never really exposed.
He is not suited to a Silva system and he will continue to struggle for as long as we play a high line.
Zouma has pace but doesn't exude confidence on the ball.
Mina doesn't look the quickest and also doesn't look that comfortable on the ball.
Perm any 2 from 3, put them in front of Pickford, who has his own issues, and it is not difficult to see why we look so bad defensively. Gueye has been partially papering over the cracks but our defence really worries me again now.

Only in a very strange mind, does Zouma take out our keeper leading to a goal, then concede another five when introduced back into the team, does it somehow how mean Keane is a bad player.

If you think Zouma was to blame for get the rave on running out of his goal and then just leaving the ball like a clown then im gonna be honest mate, the footy isnt for you.

To be fair if you are calling the game footy id suggest its not for you.

First thing you learn playing the game mate, is the keeper is the Alpha, he sees the whole pitch if the keeper shouts at you to leave it you get out of dodge.

Im presuming he shouted on the balance of probability, given he ate Zouma out of it.

Im glad i can help you understand, what can be a very beautiful game at times or as you would say Footy.

Thing is you get whoppers who watch the game, enjoy watching the game, but they don't understand what's actually going on. They see a goal has gone in and just take it for granted a certain player was at fault for it based on preconceived opinions, rather then what actually happens.

Considering I was 2 foot away from the incident I can assure you he never shouted and he also told Zouma it was his fault after it.

As you say, the keeper is the alpha, if he runs out of his goal he takes the ball and every single person near the ball.

His indecision left Son with an open goal, superb finish from a very tight angle to be fair to him.

The footy is easy, if you know how its played.

It was roughly 71.67% Pickford’s fault but Zouma is not blameless at all. He’s looking right at him and knows Son is there, he’s fully aware of the situation and knows Pickford has ballsed up, he has to be just leathering that into the stands regardless of whether he gets a shout or not.

Poor Zooms was gutted, of course he takes a portion of the blame, but if get the rave had cleared his lines, he doesnt have an issue. Zooms job is to shield Son from the ball, he expected get the rave on to put his foot through it, like any half decent keeper from League Two would have.

Pickford should never leave the penalty area in the first place, no need to come flying out like that. Once he does it’s still more Zouma that’s in control of the ball until it eventually breaks, so he should be emptying it. But the confusion should never have been created in the first place so it’s on Pickford.
