Landon Donovan

I'll be honest here, I can't be bothered Googling. I'd wager that's as he has mentioned he is seeking loans but nothing about ones with a view to permanent deals like you alleged, therefore it fits the criteria.

I'll prove this at a later date. You acknowledged my memory earlier, I wont be wrong.

No. But its an indication. Didn't prove himself in the Bundesliga? I present to you Mr Steven Pienaar.

The difference being, Pienaar was proven at Ajax, and signed as Rosickys replacement....

Donovan was signed on loan, with it cut short.

My point was, he hasn't played in a demanding league. 5 games in the Bundesliga doesn't really count, but them letting him go early provides an indication. Pienaar was let go for 2 million. What about international games, surely that's a high standard?

International football isn't a substitute for Domestic. I mean, Jo has played and scored for Brazil and Jacobsen had a million caps for Denmark. I don't see your point.

Can anyone name one Premiership side who have offered a ten week playing contract to a player aged over 25? What's the relevance of that?

That theres a reason why teams don't do it.

I'll get the mate (y)

Just to make my point clear. My issue isn't with Donovan, its with the lack of potential permanent deal.

Yes, but you mentioned long term progression.

Minus Arteta and Yobo - none of the players mentioned have stayed more than 3 years. Manny was class...but played about 15 games, maybe less.

Pienaar has been here 3 seasons and is eying the exit door - while being class is just why we have no real weight when it comes to keeping or buying players.

Investment baby.

Agreed but we tried to sign Fernandes so we had a long term outlook for progression and Pienaar will be here three seasons at the end of this - and your pretty much guessing he is looking to leave, you couldnt question his commitment by his performences. Still strching mate.

The Donavan deal goes nowhere - ill give you Jo kinda though.

Ah but with no bagging Fernandes just enforces the lack of transfer clout and the lack of options we have nowdays if we dont have the coin.

And Pienaar will be our Lescott in the summer. He'll shine and the world cup and we'll sell him for £15mill as we wont have any budget again.

Was you looking for this? http://msnsport.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12040_5751329,00.html
"We've played with one arm tied behind our back with what we've got but I hope to make some additions in January. The ones who come in will be on loan.
No mention of with a view to making them permanent there, which makes Donovan within what he was looking for.

Regardless, are you considering the Dutch League a proven league? Therefore Pienaar flopped in the Bundesliga.

Donovan was signed on loan, with it cut short.

As with everything, there were various factors there. Perhaps their best striker, Miroslav Klose, could comment on his thoughts of Donovan's quality.

German national-team striker Miroslav Klose, described Donovan as "outstanding," and "quality."

International football isn't a substitute for Domestic. I mean, Jo has played and scored for Brazil and Jacobsen had a million caps for Denmark. I don't see your point.

In context, Jo played a couple of games. Donovan has proven it over a course of time, and against some quality opposition. I covered Jacobsen before.

Why's that?

I'm like some boss Russian here, deadpan face, the works.

Exactly mate - no coin meaning we have to look at players on loan - improve them - sign them! Cue Arteta, Pienarr and Yobo!

The Donavan deal goes no where!

I agree.

But my main point is that we wont do better than the Donovan deal because we've no options....or at least affordable options.

More less confirmed on the OS and this has been released by the press association:

Everton officials are closing in on a deal to bring Landon Donovan to Merseyside in the January transfer window as the USA international declared he is looking forward to a Goodison Park switch.

The Blues declared their interest in the 27-year-old striker last week and have been in discussions with their counterparts at Major League Soccer and LA Galaxy.

Final discussions are expected in the next 48 hours after all parties agreed in principal for the two-and-half month deal to take place.

"A finalised deal is not too far away," said Everton Chief Executive Robert Elstone.

"Positive discussions have been ongoing and we expect to have Landon join the Club when the window opens on January 2."
Donovan and Galaxy general manager Bruce Arena have also confirmed that they expect a deal to be completed imminently.

Arena said: "A loan deal has not been finalised, we're hopeful it will and it will likely be with Everton.

"Everton is a club with a small roster and a congested schedule over the next few weeks and months. It's a great fit for Landon and the clubs have an understanding of the agreement. We are confident that is where he will end up."

As in permenently or loans? i could think of a few players we could loan better then Donavon with a future deal in offing for the full five months.

Loans for January that could end up permanent.

There's plenty out there, but non you could say Moyes would want to get or could afford wage wise.

Hard to know isnt it trying to guess mOyes mind, for all the ITK during the summer we hadnt a clue!

But we still have one more loan in the bag. Wonder what Donavan is on GOT mentioned 65.000 a week i would doubt that but wouldnt be shy of 40.000k i would imagine!

You can guess him but you cant get em right - he usually gets people in out of the blue.

But loans are even trickier, especially the good ones. And Moyes isnt a big January transfer buyer/loaner. I'll be surprised if we get another 2 of quality, but less surprised with another loan who's a bit poo.

Think we will go for a centre half personally, this early buissness has me guessing that we may do a bit a buissness, he will have the whole of Jan to scour the market when it becomes active if this comes of. Maybe a little bit of buissness on a Gos or a Coleman as well as a loan.

The only positive bar short term gain i can see in getting Donavan is if he and we like each other and it becomes an annual thing.
