Last Film You Watched

I have more words.

Okay so yes, wonderful, wonderful film. Oscar for Joaquin is in the bag and I agree with those that say that was the best Joker performance so far. I don't really think it's fair to compare that to Ledger/Nicholson however because their iterations of the character are when he's in full swing Joker mode where this isn't that. I found the soundtrack to be perfect, the amount of violence was just right as any more would be a distraction and tasteless. I actually found the film quite heartbreaking and admittedly teared up a few times during the flick. Personally that's why it was the best Joker performance to date as I could actually empathise the character as he evolved. One gripe I've always had with other Joker's, including Ledger's, was that as wonderful as they were I could just never really picture where this character has come from if that makes sense.

Definitely going to watch it a second (and probably third or fourth time). Couple of questions in it I couldn't answer and for the love of all things please don't make a bloody sequel!

sounds great, that review i quoted sounds like a bit an outlier lol i wonder if a batman film in a similar style would work?

I haven't read that Guardian review yet but I suspect it's maybe one of those "I want to be a special snowflake and say something different" kinda reviews.

Yeh a stripped back Batman could work I guess but honestly think Nolan's first two aren't too far off!

@Nymzee you should read The Killing Joke it's one of the best Batman stories and has a very similar parallel not as dark as Joker but it's matches the one bad day outlook to the film.

Just read the review - very much special snowflake look at me, look at me. This quote in particular shows how much of a nob this guy is:

"But at some stage the comic-book world of supervillaindom has to be entered, and Ledger was more powerful because he wasn’t weighed down with all this realist detail and overblown ironic noir grandeur, and he wasn’t forced to carry an entire story on his own. This Joker has just one act in him: the first act."

Does he not understand what an origin story is?

Read it mate, one of the best!

Also best use of the killing of Bruce’s parents. I never thought i’d say that as I can’t believe they did it again.. but this was actually the perfect context for it and brilliantly executed. Also what happened to his ‘girlfriend’?? Implied that he had killed her - or was it another fantasy?

Just got back from Joker, amazing, proper dark and disturbing, obviously not going to post any spoilers, go and see it.
I've never been into Batman films and stuff like that, but for me this is on a different level. Just some psyco guy who reminds me of a John Wayne Gacy painting.

The King Of Comedy is classic comedy film but this isnt a comedy, bit there are some funny bits, kind of like how Anerican Psyco has a few bits in there which are funny mixed up with violence.

A lot of people hate Joker too, so interesting to see which way I will go. A lot of my favourite critics are divided which doesn't often happen.

Really don't like the director, don't like comic book films, love Scorsese and Phoenix

See I've seen none of the Batman films, well apart from when Adam West was in it Haha Marvel ...etc never been my thing, I looked at this as more of a film with a fella in who just happens to dress like a clown.

That was one of the two questions I wanted answering: did he kill that lass and her kid? Was his footprint bloody in Arkham from the injuries or did he kill the therapist?

deffo have to watch it again. Got goosebumps when he realises he’s been fantasising about being with her. Its so well done you kind of question everything he experiences after that

Yeh I think they played it really well with the delusional side. You could think "that's not realistic that he'd just march in and kiss her" but he obviously had a shift in personality after the subway killings so it didn't seem too farfetched at all.
