Last Film You Watched


Hellraiser 2 : Hellbound.

Something that should be deeply terrifying wrapped up in hammy performances, cheesy special effects and some outrageous plot holes. Kind of endearing in a schlocky horror way, especially the doctors zany one-liners once he becomes whatever the hell he turns into. I just don't get the cenobites though - one minute they're shootin' hook chains everywhere, next minute they just wander around.

Atmosphere, tension, blood, gorgeous women. What's not to like. 8/10
 
Watched the documentary "The college admissions scandal" on Netflix, which was well done (surprisingly) because they had hundreds of hours of wire-taps/phone calls and had actors act out the conversations/phone calls (intersparsed with interviews of those involved), with Mathew Modine as the lead character (Rick Singer--the mastermind of the corrupt individuals involved). It exposes most (but not all) that is broken with higher education in the USA. Not riveting, but I enjoyed it.

Surprisingly, very good. Dials down the spectacle and goes for a more intimate, character driven apocalyptic drama and that helps you forgive some of the 'hang on a minute' moments. Well, apart from having you believe that Shurrup Buttwad's marriage is on the rocks 'cos he cheated on Morena Baccarin. There is no universe in which that happens.
